I consider Networking to have a minimum of two resources that cooperate over a wireless or wired connection. In the degenerate case I think one could consider a printer connected to a USB port to be networking, but I thing most would not call it that, however, if the printer had a wireless interface/support and the computer printed via that wireless interface, I suppose no one would argue it is a network. I consider your case/example to be a simple, yet real, Network, you are Networking. In my house I have three computers interconnected via an Ethernet network (Wired), they can share, and do: files and printers. Each accesses the Internet through its own interface, that's because I'm using dial-up and the telephone wiring between rooms provides all the networking I need for my Internet connections.

Karla, I did the same thing. One of the screens which popped up looked just like AVG, which is my AV. It was running a scan but there were smaller windows which looked like Windows and said,'security alert! your computer has a virus, you must update your antivirus. It had the colors of a Windows warning with the red X and blue background. The AV scan was zipping along with these alerts popping up. I was so confused, luckily I didn't react immediately (which is what I tend to do), I sat and looked at the windows and realized the scan (which looked exactly like AVG) was not AVG. It was missing the 'G'. The top of the screen just said AV. When I saw that, I knew the other boxes weren't Windows. I couldn't X anything or stop the scan. I tried to open AVG but it wouldn't open. I tried Malwarebytes, no luck. I then tried to shut down the computer and the Start button wouldn't work. More pop-ups all over the place. I manually shut the computer off. When I restarted, I did the same as Karla. I clicked on Malwarebytes immediatelly before the other processes started. It instantly grabbed 3 items before it scanned (thought that was odd). After the scan it showed 7 items: Trojan horse Fake AV.CDC Virus identified Exploit PDF Trojan.Fraudepack AV Suite Rogue.AVSecurity Suite Temp Files IE5 Rogue AV Security Suite. I don't know how to show the log. I might reinstall Windows and be done with this. It was very upsetting. My netbook seems to work normally but the proxy settings were changed and it has frozen a few times. Jane

Compress Old Files doesn't delete any files from the drive. It compresses files that Windows hasn't accessed for a specified period of time. I have 2,597,426. You can check everything in disk cleanup, won't hurt anything. You've got more serious problems with the "No IDE fixed drive present" It means the computer is not seeing a hard drive. If you can ever get it to boot again, open My Computer, right click Local Disk (C:) / Properties, click the Tools Tab, under error checking/check now, put a check in both boxes and start. Hopefully that might fix something. To me it sounds like the hard drive has died or the ide ribbon has come loose from the hd.

Hi gloriam A Proxy can also get installed by Malware. So if you're having an issue, you can remove the proxy from IE OR Firefox. In Internet Explorer you can visit this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2289942 Run the fixit and it will remove any proxy. If this was the result of Malware, then you should have additional diagnostics scans run.
