viruses on my computer

I'm wondering if someone can help me. Two days ago my computer started acting funny and a virus scan program would pop up on my computer. I thought it was from Microsoft but I'm thinking it's a virus, because it won't go away. The fourth or fifth time it popped up I started to download the scan and then thought maybe I shouldn't and stopped it.

Then I used my AVG scanning program to scan and it found three different Trogan viruses. I thought I got rid of them. But, today AVG pops up saying there was a "fake scan" and another virus on my computer. I couldn't get rid of it, the only options were to cancel or send it to the virus vault, whatever that was...so that's what I did. A few minutes later the other one came up and I clicked to "heal" it and AVG came back saying it couldn't heal it. So, now I'm doing another scan of my computer with AVG and hope I can get rid of them this way. Even after scanning and deleting the viruses yesterday and the day before, the pop up scan keeps coming back. I just close it out. Oh, and after I scan I turn my computer off and restart it. But still the fake scan thing keeps popping up.

Do I need to take it to a computer repair place or can I fix this myself? I really hate to lose everything again by having them wipe my computer. I thought having AVG would prevent this from happening.

I just checked and AVG has found the following so far:

Trojan horse generic 11.BLPO, and two Fake Alert viruses.

Try rebooting in safe mode and running the virus scan. That way, if a virus is using some method of hiding in memory, you'll still take care of it.

You may want to use the trend micro online scanning tool. I've seen it locate and eliminate viruses other scanners missed.

I was wondering this for a while now and especially since Patrick's post on Reine Violettes. Most of my Bourbons and Hyb. Musks were from Roses of Yesterday and Today. They have been good plants in the past, but are not as vigorous as they once were. I got a pink pillar from them and when I had to move it, it had made its own roots so I cut off the old Dr. Huey roots which were now a thick woody knob. The rose foliage immediately showed the mosaic pattern even though I had never seen it on the leaves when it was on the Huey roots in the old location. Now it is SP'd. Are the roses from Antique Rose Emporium on Huey rootstock or own root? I need to replace a number of OGR's and was thinking of buying there.

The easiest thing to do is buy an inexpensive new hard drive and install the operating system that was on the old hard drive. It will be a clean install and everything will work well. I have tried to remove viruses, etc., from a computer which was given to me and it's more trouble than it's worth. New install on a new hard drive is quick, easy and no more problems (assuming its an XP version), some of the older operating systems are a little more work.

Boy, do I agree with all of you! I've had a lot of the same experiences and done a lot of the things you've suggested. (except for the You-Tube thing, that's funny!) It seems like as soon as somebody learns how to use a computer and how to e-mail people, that's what they start doing. It's the mark of a Newby. I have a cousin that doesn't e-mail me at all anymore because I asked her to stop sending stuff like that. I asked her nice, in much the same was as has been recommended here. Lots of genealogy buddies won't e-mail me at all anymore because I don't want the junk. It's not fair! I'd love to hear from all of them, just not the junk. An old classmate just happily continued sending stuff -- from work, yet -- until I blocked her e-mails from coming to me entirely. She hacked me off. I didn't like her very much while we were going to school with each other. I stole her boyfriend and still she wanted to be pals. --Especially after somebody came along and stole the guy from me! LOL I don't know why people get so insulted when they're asked not to send the junk stuff.

Bpgreen, how do I scan it in the safe mode? Thanks for answering me so quickly, I'm really getting worried and am writing all my e-mail addresses down now.

Reboot and while it is starting, hit the F8 key. That will give you a menu of boot options. One of them will be safe mode. Choose that one. It will take a lot longer to boot that way, so be patient and don't get scared when you see all kinds of programs and drivers scroll past as they load.

Once it boots, I think you get a prompt telling you that it is in safe mode and you have to click Ok to continue. Then go to Start/All Programs and select your virus scanner. I'm not sure of the exact steps you need to take to launch it and do a scan, since they will vary depending on the program, but it should be fairly obvious once you start it.

Kaths you have been infected by the antivirus xp virus this is a very nasty one and takes several steps to clean it, you will need to get these 3 programs and run each of them do not stop with one if it seems better do all of them. If you find you are not able to go to these sites to download the programs that means you have a more aggressive type and you will need to come back here and tell me that then I can lead you to another forum where we can help you with that clean up. for now go ahead and get these programs and run them they are all free.

ATF-Cleaner.exe
be sure you follow the directions as they apply to each type of browser you have.

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
install it hit the update button tell it to scan your entire drive and allow it to clean anything it finds.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

when you are done let me know how it is doing then we can go from there.

Ravencajun, thanks so much for your help, after a couple hours of scanning with the malwarebytes system I think my computer is cleaned up! I've only had it rebooted for a few minutes but it's not acting the way it was before. I had also called a computer place that I've taken my computer to and they recommended the same software. Thanks again.

you are welcome just be sure to run all of three of them and you can use both malwarebytes and superantispyware weekly on your pc just update them and scan very good programs.
