viruses on my computer

I'm wondering if someone can help me. Two days ago my computer started acting funny and a virus scan program would pop up on my computer. I thought it was from Microsoft but I'm thinking it's a virus, because it won't go away. The fourth or fifth time it popped up I started to download the scan and then thought maybe I shouldn't and stopped it.

Then I used my AVG scanning program to scan and it found three different Trogan viruses. I thought I got rid of them. But, today AVG pops up saying there was a "fake scan" and another virus on my computer. I couldn't get rid of it, the only options were to cancel or send it to the virus vault, whatever that was...so that's what I did. A few minutes later the other one came up and I clicked to "heal" it and AVG came back saying it couldn't heal it. So, now I'm doing another scan of my computer with AVG and hope I can get rid of them this way. Even after scanning and deleting the viruses yesterday and the day before, the pop up scan keeps coming back. I just close it out. Oh, and after I scan I turn my computer off and restart it. But still the fake scan thing keeps popping up.

Do I need to take it to a computer repair place or can I fix this myself? I really hate to lose everything again by having them wipe my computer. I thought having AVG would prevent this from happening.

I just checked and AVG has found the following so far:

Trojan horse generic 11.BLPO, and two Fake Alert viruses.

Try rebooting in safe mode and running the virus scan. That way, if a virus is using some method of hiding in memory, you'll still take care of it.

You may want to use the trend micro online scanning tool. I've seen it locate and eliminate viruses other scanners missed.

Blueheron. Nevereverevereverever assume an unsolicited phone call of this nature is legit. AVG is a wonderful anti-virus program and should catch a lot of stuff IF, indeed, you have any problems. I'm sure there are local IT people who either make house calls or would allow you to drop off your computer if there's something that AVG can't eradicate. Ask your computer-owning friends. Check your local Angie's List or Craig's List or Yelp.com or perhaps a local university. You're setting yourself up to get ripped off in some way if you continue to communicate with the person who called you from India. Don't do it! Also, what sarathebrit said. Karen

I don't think this will work to much time has passed on the computer they were originally on but give it a shot see link below, As far as the usb drive if 3 computers can't access it then you may need to consider the Data Recovery. Boy, do I agree with all of you! I've had a lot of the same experiences and done a lot of the things you've suggested. (except for the You-Tube thing, that's funny!) It seems like as soon as somebody learns how to use a computer and how to e-mail people, that's what they start doing. It's the mark of a Newby. I have a cousin that doesn't e-mail me at all anymore because I asked her to stop sending stuff like that. I asked her nice, in much the same was as has been recommended here. Lots of genealogy buddies won't e-mail me at all anymore because I don't want the junk. It's not fair! I'd love to hear from all of them, just not the junk. An old classmate just happily continued sending stuff -- from work, yet -- until I blocked her e-mails from coming to me entirely. She hacked me off. I didn't like her very much while we were going to school with each other. I stole her boyfriend and still she wanted to be pals. --Especially after somebody came along and stole the guy from me! LOL I don't know why people get so insulted when they're asked not to send the junk stuff.

Good Morning and Thank Goodness its raining again! The game was like sitting in the middle of the Artic - 28 degrees with a slight wind and 1 snow flurry that lasted all of about 5 minutes. Did we win you ask? 68 to 0, everyone was rooting for the other team by the end of the game. And the coach had his 2nd string in from the 2nd quart on. The cheerleaders were doing jumping jacks for each touchdown by jumping the number on the score board. 61 times was a tough one but then after the next play they had to do 68. By the time they were done they were no longer together and a couple were laughing so hard they couldn't jump at all. Our DGS stayed over and just went home to get ready for church. We watched movies last night, had pop corn and root beer floats. Hard to believe he is almost 18... Joan...I live in S. W. WA., and this is really early for snow here! The ski resorts don't usually open until after T'day..rarely before, they are now up and running. We live at about the 700' level and are just high enough to be hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. Luvs...My DS and his wife gave me lots of books last year for Christmas. They hit every TS between here and Tacoma to find them, but, and I won't let them know, most are not my style or nothing caught my attention or well you know! And as I don't have a lot of storage space, something moves in something else moves out and I have forgotten the "out" part. Ah! Birthdays for pets...I remember my DD baking mud cakes for our dogs...used twigs for candles and pebbles for M&M's. It was fun reading about your DGD! Such precious times! Anj.....your kindness shows through all the time but after reading your post....you are super! Too many times when people know that someone is dying they "back away," afraid of I don't know what or just not knowing what to say. When my DMIL was in her last weeks, she told us that she was tired of everyone "walking on egg" whenever the subject of her dying had to be addressed. She helped me understand that being forthright was much easier and helped her cope much better. The closeness we shared during her last weeks is something I will never loose and I now think of her fondly which wasn't always the case for as she said "She was the Mother-In-Law from Hell" And yes we to have Gift Tree's, stores and malls won't use the word Christmas... and our fraternal order always gathers food and toys each year. And this year the need is greater than ever. The unemployment rate in our area is at about 15% and rising. Punk....glad you are safe! My DH is so worried about the tires on the van. He calls them city tread so I know that by Friday he will make a trip to town and get some Country Tread. Ah! Well! Better safe than sorry! Today is pretty free so I just might do a canvas type painting of Halloween. Been putting if off because it will be a real challenge but right about know I think I am up to it and can't find anything else I want to paint, sounds like we all have the painting blues! Bpgreen, how do I scan it in the safe mode? Thanks for answering me so quickly, I'm really getting worried and am writing all my e-mail addresses down now.

Reboot and while it is starting, hit the F8 key. That will give you a menu of boot options. One of them will be safe mode. Choose that one. It will take a lot longer to boot that way, so be patient and don't get scared when you see all kinds of programs and drivers scroll past as they load.

Once it boots, I think you get a prompt telling you that it is in safe mode and you have to click Ok to continue. Then go to Start/All Programs and select your virus scanner. I'm not sure of the exact steps you need to take to launch it and do a scan, since they will vary depending on the program, but it should be fairly obvious once you start it.

Kaths you have been infected by the antivirus xp virus this is a very nasty one and takes several steps to clean it, you will need to get these 3 programs and run each of them do not stop with one if it seems better do all of them. If you find you are not able to go to these sites to download the programs that means you have a more aggressive type and you will need to come back here and tell me that then I can lead you to another forum where we can help you with that clean up. for now go ahead and get these programs and run them they are all free.

ATF-Cleaner.exe
be sure you follow the directions as they apply to each type of browser you have.

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
install it hit the update button tell it to scan your entire drive and allow it to clean anything it finds.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

when you are done let me know how it is doing then we can go from there.

Ravencajun, thanks so much for your help, after a couple hours of scanning with the malwarebytes system I think my computer is cleaned up! I've only had it rebooted for a few minutes but it's not acting the way it was before. I had also called a computer place that I've taken my computer to and they recommended the same software. Thanks again.

you are welcome just be sure to run all of three of them and you can use both malwarebytes and superantispyware weekly on your pc just update them and scan very good programs.
