Happy Holidays I purchased Whirlpool New Hybrid Dryer not requiring venting to outside, and matching front load washer with Steam. The washer gets cloths cleaner than any washer I’ve owned prior, I no longer use additives or bleach. Wash times are longer, but the machines are great quality, 10 year warranty on drum, etc. The dryer gets cloths dry, the set cost more than competitors but those who are buying Samsung or LG, remember they are manufactured in Korea or China, they may have technology, lower prices but when something goes wrong or breaks, parts come from there and often I’ve herd from others who own these appliances, parts are not readily available and they wait months to get the parts delivered and repairs completed. When I read some reviews bout Whirlpools new technologies, people were complaining about routine maintenance. I couldn’t understand why all the complaining, you get your car serviced, oil changed regularly, maintenance insures your appliance wii last. My phone parents still have the same appliances I grew up with, but manufactures cut cost by making the machines not built like they were in the past. I’m loyal Apple consumer, the products cost more, but when they have issues, it cost more to repair than buying new product. It angers me now that I’m retired, I can’t afford new every couple years, and for my loyalty, this is how they have such huge profits. Reality, that’s corporate America. I have learned to do the maintenance myself and repairs are easier going to you tube, watch a repairman show you how to do the repair. Whirlpool offered me a 5 year extended warranty, whirlpool uses qualified repairman to service your products. I pay $80.00 a month for 3 months for my extended warranty. It’s insurance should something major happen, peace of mind. I drove from Los Angeles 2 hours to Dana Point to purchase the set, Orange County Appliance Store offered better prices, I saved $400 on the set. Like all new technology, cost more in the beginning, but I suspect this new technology will become the norm, more manufacturing will follow, lowering prices. Whirlpool now owns Maytag, and Amana which are my kitchen appliances. Whirlpool is the largest manufacturer and made here in America. Americans still make quality products, if more Americans trusted American products above buying cheaper made in China, maybe the prices would be lower. Remember, you all want better salaries, better homes, better schools, multiple homes, new automobiles, yet why are you not supporting fellow Americans working to make you quality products? One last thing I like to mention, as a Veteran who Proudly served, I like it when people thank me for my service. If you really want to thank me, contact your representative and Senator and tell them to provide Veterans with benefits that are not below poverty living. It’s an insult to those who served. The majority of homeless here are Veterans. It’s bad enough we witness the corruption in Washington, but Veterans deserve better. If those serving now knew how they will be treated after serving and become disabled, left to live in poverty, I doubt that many would serve and give their life knowing that the country they fought for cared less about them later. Do your homework, learn all you can about everything in life, you’ll make wiser decisions and better choices! God Bless, good luck, and remember that this current crises we will all get through. I’m sorry about the couple hundred thousand who have died, but millions of men who paid social security, who will never get benefits died. Social Security claims to be broke. Where is all the money they took from the millions who died and will never be given benefits. Like I said,the corruption in Washington, and I won’t mention the one who is fired and only became President to keep NY District Attorney for coming after him for all the crimes he had committed. He got into the White House so they couldn’t go after him! That’s life!

In the future, I recommend going directly to the source when you have questions." LOL - yes, always trust some someone you just gave thousands of dollars. That you did so guarantees they are honest and forthright. It's like a law of the physical universe - every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and every HVAC contractor is honest if you buy a system from them! But in all seriousness, of course most extended warranties that you pay extra for - on anything - are a rip-off. As with gambling in a casino, 'the house always wins'. I've heard terrible stories about those add on warranties in real estate transactions from "American Home Warranty Corporation" et al. There are rare exceptions...if you're incredibly clumsy and prone to dropping your smartphone in toilet bowls or something, yes, you should probably get the no-fault smartphone warranty when you buy it. These top HVAC manufacturers abandoning their own long term warranties are part of us becoming a throwaway culture where for many products, the prestige of a brand has nothing to do with the actual quality of the product and more to do with what's 'cool'. Years ago people thought of Carrier, Trane and Lennox as being good brands because they had a reputation for quality. I remember in the late 80s my father proudly saying our renovated house would have a Lennox instead of Fedders. Nowadays, most "kids" (anyone under 35 for me LOL) with enough money to be buying or renovating a house probably just cared about having a "Nest" thermostat, because some stupid celebrity tweeted about it. What equipment does the actual cooling probably isn't even on their radar. So why should Carrier and Trane bother with the cost of a underwriting real long term warranties? Better to outsource it. Here's my experiences getting a lot of work done at 2 different houses I've owned: 1) avoid companies that advertise heavily. The companies that are really great don't have to, they will have word of mouth business. 2) get at least 3 estimates; always 3) fool me once, shame on you, fool my twice, shame on me. If you have a bad experience with someone one time, don't kid yourself into thinking it was a fluke. It wasn't, and next time they will try to rip you off even more. 4) get everything in writing, including the exact part number being replaced. Feel free to take pictures with your smartphone to document what is being put in. They're working for _you_. I was assured by Carrier on the phone, that as long as the work was done by a licensed contractor, putting in the correct part, it would not affect my compressor warranty. My dealer was "Carrier authorized" when I bought the system, but they lost it a couple years later, probably because they sucked. The only good HVAC company around here is not Carrier authorized, but they did a good job fixing the system when the TXV valve failed. And at 1/2 the price the nearest "Carrier authorized" people wanted. I took a picture to document that they were replacing with the Carrier recommended part. 5) if someone seems to even slightly talk down to you, scratch them from the list. Their attitude is probably an honest reflection of what they think of you...you're involved in a predator prey interaction and you're the prey. Sorry, the majority of these companies ARE trying to rip you off in some way or another.

I'm thinking more of getting a "free" replacement for washer (and maybe dryer) when they're 20 years old, for the $270 or so it will cost extra to replace them. And since the range and refrigerator (as well as the washer) have needed repairs in the past few years, I thought it might be worth the warranty since I really don't plan on replacing them. The service calls are so expensive - though I suppose I still haven't gotten my money's worth out of the last 4 years worth (I think they had 3 year manufacturer's warranties) but the service calls would have been $500-700 I believe - esp. since they always seem to break down the day before or day of a holiday. The DW was under $1000 but the range and refrigerator were over $1000 each and still are. What's the expected life of a range, DW, or French door fridge? I know the W/D have lived past the expected 15 yrs (IIRC).

Do not buy 3rd party warranties. CPS has no technicians, but rather will find some hack in your area to try and fix your appliances. An excerpt from a poster on the Complaints Board: Terrible company to deal with. My ice maker has been broken for 9 months now. They have sent a repair technician out to fix it over 5 times changing several parts on it only to be a temporary fix. They now refuse to come back out because they say the unit is unrepairable. Before CPS can replace the unit under lemon law, they had to get a second opinion so they sent out a different company who have come out 3 times and they too say that the unit is unrapairable. I'm still waiting to hear from CPS's supervisors, David and Eli! I have a 5 year warranty on a $3, 500 refrigerator and it has been a complete nightmare to deal with CPS and I still have a broken ice box! I would NOT recommend getting warranty with this company!
