Should I build 1 or 2 dishwashers in new home
Comments (31)We LOVE our two dishwashers, located on either side of the large sink. Definitely a smart move if your home will be the holiday host location. Because I have two dishwashers, there's always room for family members to load their own plates into a dishwasher - so they do. A little re-shuffling after the party and clean-up's almost done. Trash locations -- If you've got two sinks, I'd suggest you'll also need two trash cans. Out set-up is that the main trash is by the prep sink, with compartments for garbage and compostables. By the clean-up sink, we have a smaller trash and larger recycling area. If I had a do-over, I could have better-sized the various trash/compost/recycling containers -- but the locations are right....See MoreOur 11 month old new KitchenAid dishwasher craps out
Comments (21)We, too, had a workhorse KA dishwasher. I fairly wept when it gave its swan song after 20+ years of washing dried on cheeses, tomato sauce and other malodorous gunk. We purchased a new one, bought the extended warranty and had a service call within two months. Control board went. Frustrating part was that Lowe's told me that no matter what died, it was covered. Well, it was covered, but I couldn't get anyone to come out. I'd make an appointment, and the company would cancel the night before. Finally, I called Lowes, told them about it and they sent someone right out. Currently, the little happy chime doesn't signal denoting the end of cycle .... probably signaling another service call. Sorry to corroborate your experience, PKguy. I've become so cynical. I hear energy savings, it only uses a teaspoon of water, blah, blah, blah and I just put up my hand like a traffic cop, thinking "Please. I'll be replacing this in just a few years." Comments (4)Technically all DW's fit in a 24" space. Practically, there are other issues beyond just the basic will it fit in a 24" opening. Are your cabinets inset, full overlay, or partial overlay? That will affect how well the panel looks with them. Inset panels tends to stick out beyond the face frame, and not look quite right. It really has to be planned for from the beginning for deeper cabinets if it is to line up. Full overlay is fine. Partial overlay can be too, if the cabinet maker knows what he's doing. Are your cabinets relatively newly installed? Wood changes color as it ages, and some paints do too. If the cabinets have been there a while, the panel that you get from the cabinet company or cabinet maker may not exactly match your current cabinets. It may catch up in time, like cherry darkening, or it may not, like some paint fading....See MoreShould I buy KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDE70FX?
Comments (8)About 18 months ago I purchased an $1,100 KitchenAid KUDE40xxxx D/W for my house and moved my 9 year old KA D/W to a rental. The guts of all of the KA D/W's are generally the same above about $500. As the price moves up they just add a few more features like the utensil rack and wash/rinse functions. This new KA is a real disappointment. The membrane key pad went out within the 1st year of the factory warranty. Then the upper rack parts began to fall apart. I have the same rack problems as others have mentioned. Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty which is usually a mistake according to Consumers Magazine but for $149 it may turn into a bargain. I called my extended warranty co. and they said the rack problem is not covered and to call Kitchen Aid. They indicated that KA has a problem with the racks. I called KA and they said they would supply the parts for the rack but I would have to pay for the service call. They would not send me the parts which I offered to install (and probably cost KA 50 cents). The service call was $109. The tech said they carry those rack parts on all of their service trucks because of the high failure rate. The tech also said it is the same part as the original, it hasn't been improved, so he said he'll be back as it will fail again. Meanwhile, my old $500 KA D/W has never been a problem after 10 years including 18 months in a rental. My next kitchen remodel is about 7 months away and now I have to find a D/W for that job and it will not be KA....See Morejwvideo
