Can I Capture Streaming Video from Hulu, abc.com, fox.com etc

I just finished reading through the thread on capturing video from Youtube. I used the typing abc in the URL before the word Youtube. What a great tool.

I'd love to do that with other streaming video and have had no luck. Specifically, I missed this last week's episode of Modern Family (episode 2) - which I can only find on Hulu (and perhaps is on abc.com itself). But I hate watching tv on my computer. I'd love to watch on my regular tv with my family. If I can capture it on my pc's hard drive, I have several options for getting it to my television (either burn a DVD or convert to mp4 and stream to my Tivo). But I can't figure out a way to capture the video. I've had similar wishes for episodes I've missed of In Treatment and American Idol.

I actually tried a few times to get help on the Tivo forums - but the answers there suggested there was no easy solution short of getting involved with bit torrents or writing your own codecs (?) - all options above my head.

But in reading the Youtube thread, it mentioned a few other programs that I was hoping might be able to capture these television shows.

http://www.savevid.com/ was mentioned by Cheryl. I clicked the link and it looks like the free trial is limited in terms of what it captures (like youtube - which I can already do). They sell the software for $39.95. I'd be fine with paying that if it actually captured the shows I want - but I can't tell if it will.

Also, Ravencajun mentioned one that I haven't been able to load (server errors I think). It's

http://keepvid.com/. I can't get that to load or get the FAQ to load (http://keepvid.com/faq). I don't know what the problem is. Can this program keepvid do what I'm looking for.

So basically I wonder if savevid or keepvid can capture shows from hulu and major networks (and HBO?). Or are there other programs that do.

Lynn about the easiest way is to just use one of the many firefox add-ons that capture video, I had one I used on one of my computers but now I can not remember which one it was but there are many you can try several, here is a link to the search on firefox

this is one that has been around for a while and many people like it, allows download and conversion with one tool, it has a website you can utilize also, just click on the link which is on this firefox add on page

Thanks Raven. I've spent some time looking at all of these and I'm not sure any of them will work for what I want. Lots of them capture video from Youtube, metacalfe, etc - but none of these mention capturing video from Hulu, or the major network's own sites. Two of them - video search and downloader and multimediawebrecorder might. At least their description and reviews don't rule out the possibility. And for the webrecorder one, folks mention it captures everything (of course, I don't know if they've tried the kind of shows I'm hoping to capture). So I've downloaded both and will experiment with them over the weekend.

I already had downloadhelper - but it never helped with any of the sites I wanted. It has a long list of sites it works with - but there's no easy way to search other than scrolling through many, many sites- the majority of which mean nothing to me. Just doesn't seem very well organized - and it may just be outdated at this point.

The MediaConvertor doesn't seem compatible with this latest version of Firefox.

I'll report back if I have luck - but I'm not optimistic. Any other ideas still welcomed.

first of all you will have to have a wifi network set up in your home so that you have the ability to stream anything. IF you are not on high speed internet you won't be able to do it. So if you have high speed internet such as cable, fios, some dsl etc, and you also already have a wireless router set up for your home network and it is in range of the device you will use to do the streaming, and you have one of the various devices that will do the streaming such as a Roku box, certain blu ray players, certain xboxes, other specific streaming devices (there are many out there including Sony, western digital,RCA), and if you have a tv compatible with such devices, then you can also do netflix streaming if you have a netflix account. There are many other websites that do streaming media that do not require a subscription you can get stuff free from them. Now if you do not have a wireless router set up and you can string an etherenet cord from the computer area to the tv area you can use the streaming devices hard wired too but in most cases that is not very practical . Also some of the very new tv's now come capable of this too. I have a smart TV. I also have a Roku box that I used with a previous TV. We have Hulu plus. We have Netflix. We have Cable TV. We have a DVR. Cable TV and the DVR takes care of most of our needs for TV shows. Hulu plus takes care of a few shows that take up overlapping timespots. We can only record 2 shows at once. If there is a third one we can usually get it from Hulu plus. But not all networks are supported on Hulu plus. Cable costs $51/month (TV+locals+DVR); then add Netflix and Hulu plus. I'm not really trying to reduce costs. I just want access to all the TV shows that we regularly watch. Some are not available on Hulu plus. Some shows will show up on Hulu plus but if you try to watch them you will be taken to the networks website to watch only on your computer. I don't want to watch them on the computer, I want to watch them on TV. I don't order online enough to justify Prime free shipping. I no longer read ebooks. Haven't read an actual book in years. I get all my music from Youtube. So I just can't justify having Prime. Pooh Bear

The accident happened in a narrow express lane that's being faulted for having no shoulder, just concrete barrier on both sides. It's a toll lane that many choose because it potentially expedites their drive, allowing avoidance of the main highway lanes. I have hated those lanes since they first began installing them in this area a number of years ago. I am absolutely not "blaming" those who drove there yesterday, but I have to think the lane they were in was a death trap based on its very design. I've only driven in such a lane once and only until I could make a quick exit. It was so unnerving, like driving in a luge track or something, with vehicles barreling down on me from behind at close to 80mph. Horrifying.

2Katz, I’m not sure about that, but since it’s owned by Google, I would suspect so. The picture on my older Plasma is amazing. If you’re not sure, tell ATT you’ll be traveling and want to put the service on hold, there may be a small fee but at least that way you won’t have to pay for it while testing. There’s no contract for youtubeTV and you can cancel any time, plus it’s a month free if you decide not to stick with it. You just have to have a good internet service for it to stream well. I use ZD Soft Screen Recorder for streaming content.
It is not free. Currently it is $39.
I am not affiliated with the site; I just like the program.
Downside: it records in real time so you have to let the
show play thru while it records. So you might as well skip
recording it and watch it on the computer anyway.
