Aluminum Shakes and Shingles???

My husband would love me to commit to a tin roof. I am set on hard I siding/stone exterior. It doesn't seem that the standing seam roofs really look right with a somewhat traditional style home with these exterior choices. I came across aluminum shakes or shingles that seem like they would meet his wish and match the design. One company I came across is interlockroofing...although it appears there are many more. This company at least has a lot of styles. I am not too concerned about install cost, as he has installed many tin roofs (farm boy). Curious if anyone has had any experience with these, as I have previously not heard of them :)

What about doing an area of copper with an architectural asphalt shingle? A traditional look that blends with siding and stone.

A girl on this board named AnnieMc something has a beautiful traditional home with stone, copper etc...

The interlocking sounds really cool!

spottythecat-great advice...I actually really like those small copper sections you are talking about. My husband would remarry me if I went with a tin roof :). Since the shingles look better for the majority of the roof, I was searching online for maybe a color that would still look OK when I stumbled on these aluminum shingles/shakes. It just seems like I can have it all when it cones to the roof with these products. We have tin on (and inside LOL) several buildings on our current acreage, and I have resigned to the tin quanset that will go to the new place. I actually do like tin and like that we wouldn't be redoing our roof after every major Nebraska hailstorm. Unfortunately, I am not seeing any dealers near me...so I may have to travel to Chicago or Ohio to look at some of these roof choices!

Our lumberyard sells the Sierra Primed Shake Deep Groove in 20 board bundles at $168.30 per bundle, which breaks down to approx $8.40 per 8' board. We did price out the pre-finished in Maple too...$259.25 per bundle or approx $12.96 per board. Those prices are with a 15% discount that they very kindly offered since we're OBing. :o)

Yes, like Mainegrower says, be sure to check with your insurance company. Depending on the section of the country where you live, you might get a break in rates if you install a standing seam metal roof. Like here in hurricane country. Or probably out in forest fire country too. One other thread mentioned that in snow/ice country, where slate was a nice roofing choice, they put standing seam metal on lower porch roofs where falling ice etc would tend to break the slates. So both materials would be appropriate to use on the same house simultaneously.

I love everything about it right now, except for the color of the shutters. I would much prefer them to be painted to match the roof. I dont think the house will look nearly as good painted white.
