Wanted: tips for building with physical disabilities in mind

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and have learned so much from you all; thank you!

We're going to start building a house in about 3 years (I'm a bit of a planner so I'm working on things now!) and are likely going to be building a suite or a whole separate floor for my parents. Both of my parents have a physical disability (my mom has MS and my dad has 1 amputated leg) and will likely move in with us at some point down the road. We'd like to plan now and have the room ready rather than try and change it later.

We're likely going to do a 3 story house and give them the whole basement (walkout) with a covered path to the front porch and front door complete with ramp that they can use their motorized scooters to "commute". =D

Their shower will be a roll in, and everything from the toilet to the sink will be ADA suggested. We're making the closets with low shelves and pulldown storage.

We have lots of other ideas, but I'm hoping to get practical best practices from your own builds!

thanks!
