Windows XP Help switching user

Hi Gang - I did something really dumb.

Wanted to add an additional user account for my son so he can use my computer.

Problem is, I never made myself the Administrator of this computer since no one else ever used it.

Now I added him and HE is the administrator and all of my files are gone.

Is there a way to reverse all this?

Update - I did a system restore back to a week before. All my things have returned.

But I'd still like to make an account for my son and it keeps wanting to make him the Administrator. If I do that again, it will wipe out all my files etc., again.

How do I make MYSELF the Administrator and then add my son as an additional user?

Hi shaun,

Go to "control panel" then click on "user accounts". I think it should be easy from there.

I haven't found any problems at all with IE7 either, XPSP2 here. My many bookmarks were all there, unchanged. I did get a warning for the first couple of months that it was not compatible with my Quickbooks program (this was after I'd taken steps to make changes at my bank so my computer with new browser was recognized online), but I double checked payroll, invoicing by hand and all was fine. After about 8 weeks, Quickbooks came up with a patch so that I no longer get the warning that I should reinstall IE6. (the warning prompt I find now is that Vista will not be compatible with my accounting program, 2 years old and $400 - will be waiting on that one:))

shabruo first of all Rudd is the sister company to Rheem and is an often overlooked and underated brand. They make good HVAC and I like their HPs better than Lennox. I would not give up on Rudd simply because the dealer did not quote you correctly. these are my minimum specs for a new HP system. both outside and inside units should be replaced to have a properly matched system. 15 SEER, 12.5+ EER, 9 HSPF best matching VS air handler full BTUs in both cooling and heating for your rated size R-410a refrigerant(same as Puron) scroll compressor preferred electronic demand defrost preferred thermostat with "dehumidify on demand" feature staged backup heat strips new and correctly sized refrigerant lineset you want a thorough inspection of your ductwork system. size, overall condition, supply and return lines, insulation qualities, leak test, etc. any hot/cold spot issues in your home should be addressed. I would only use authorized dealers for the various brands that provide quotes. see mfg websites. I would look at Trane/AmStd,Rheem,Carrier/Bryant. I wouldn't do a thing until the dealers involved perform a load calc for correct sizing. If they refuse, show themm the door. I can't see the job from here but yes your pricing does seem on the high side. Of course installing ductwork in a retrofit where there is none usually is problematic. It is a mistake buying HVAC through a big box store. Depending on experience of dealer, zoning multilevel homes can be helpful with the overall comfort factor to the various parts of your home. IMO

I just made one here as a trial... Not much to it.

First I guess, you might want to right click myComputer and select properties. Then click the tab for Computer Name.

Then click the button that says Change...

If not already both a computer name, and a workgroup name, make up something that makes sense to you. And please if by chance no name exists in workgroup, please don't use MSHome.
My laptop is TosLaptop, group name is ANYGROUP. (If you assign your computer an Identity name, it's wise to not name it same as the workgroup or the computer name - so keep that in mind visa/versa too.)

Then go to control panel, Users, and on the initial page that opens choose the link for Create a new account. Give him a name and choose the button to give him Administrator privileges or Limited privileges.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well the problem was that I had never assigned an Admin of this computer. So I was using the Adminis that Wndows put in there when it was installed.

So I had to create a new acct naming me as Admin and then I was able to create a new acct for my son.

What a pain.......

Thanks again. Maybe this will help someone else one day.
