Congratulations on making one of your major choices!!! I always felt like the weight of the world was (temporarily) off of my shoulders when I made a big choice (flooring, granite, stone, roof etc), especially one that I was excited about. That is great, and 3 days to get in...how does that translate to installation? Are you ready for it to go up? O.K., how about a description of the stone?

In my excitement I didn't ask him about installation time! LOL! I heard three days and that is all she wrote.

We are going with sand stone. I have a picture of an entrance I saw. The layout will be like this picture but these are called chop block I believe. We are having it more of a chipped look, no saw marks. This photo you can see the saw marks. That was one thing we did not want. Limestone was really the main rock used here in central Texas but sand stone has become very popular and I feel in love with it the first time I saw it! Our color is pretty close to this color in the picture. My major thing was I did not want a whole lot of 'reds' in it. Some sand stone has a lot more red in it then others.

I am so ready for it to go up! I can't wait to share photos!!

Very pretty. And I read on another thread that you love Colonial style houses but aren't building one. I have to tell you that for the hills out of Austin, your plan is one of the more perfect ones I've ever seen. It will fit in so well. You're a history buff and I bet if you look up vernacular architecture for that area, or just old photos you'll find your plan captures the feeling of the traditional homes there so well. I'd build it myself, but it's not as well suited to GA as to TX. (I should be building a Southern Colonial! But I'm not.)

Hold onto your horses--you'll get your stone before you know it! OH, go rescue some leftover stone in case you want to put it on small projects later on--planters, a garden shed or pavillion that matches your house, etc.

Oh pinktoes I am on the same page as you! LOL! I already have things going in my mind as far as planters. BUT, a garden shed....PERFECT! I never thought about that.

I do love Colonial style homes! Even has a little girl I wanted one. When we lived in VA for a short time and would take drives out in the country I would fall in LOVE with the older homes, esp. the Colonial style homes. I met a lady who told me she still to this day finds buttons and such from the civil war all over their land. But, you are right, colonial would not have fit in to where we are building. I have a dream though that some day I will build a colonial home in the east somewhere! LOL! VA is breath taking but I have never really been further south. I have always wanted to go Atlanta. It always seemed so 'southern' to me. I could just picture the homes with the rockers on the front porch and ladies sitting there drinking tea!

Ok, I better go pack up some things instead of dreaming here.

Did you see charliedawg's thread (link below) about her new shed? Scroll down to near the bottom for jabbahop's darling shed built out of "scraps" that were headed to the landfill from her house build. If you'll go up a couple of posts from where her shed photo is and follow her links you'll see the shed and garage and just a tad of the house. It all matches! And it's red, not the dark color shown on charlie's thread. SO cute!

Unfortunately, I'm sure by now you have your G.C. trained to clean up your site so perfectly that there will be no leftovers for you to scrounge! Hah!

LOL! Hah is right! I think the place was to be cleaned up yesterday or today???!!! I was going to drive out there but DD had her first soccer practice. Coach was pretty much begging for someone to step up as team parent so I volunteered. I also somehow am the co-room parent for DD second grade class?? I need to have my head examined.

Thanks Lindy! I can't wait to see it up either!!!! There is a church down the road from us and they just finished putting up the sand stone and it looks GREAT! I hope ours looks just has good. GC said it was going to look "really really nice!"

I don't post often, but have been following your (and everyone else's) build(s) with much interest and anticipation (and yes, envy, lol) :)

We hope to start our basement excavation next week. It's getting REALLY late for starting in our area, but as long as it's dried in before freeze-up we should be ok.

Thanks Dawn! It is so neat to hear everyone talk about their basements! I grew up in PA and of course everyone had a basement and more then half of them were finished out. So where the attics. I was always use to being able to walk up regular stairs to a giant attic. Here you have a little fold out latter and you go into a crawl space! LOL! DH was born and raised in Texas so he can not understand how the attic can be made into 3 more bedrooms :-) I would love to take him back home someday so he can see what I am talking about.

Anyway, I got off the subject. Good luck with your build and I hope you start soon. I was shocked to hear we already have a cold front moving down from the north. It is a weak one but still, fall is right around the corner!

Went out to the property today and the electrical pole was up!!! I did not even notice it! DD said "POLE!" I was so happy to see it!!!!! Just had to share :-)

I can only imagine the anticipation you must be feeling :)

The hydro pole is actually the ONLY thing we have completed right now. Ran into a major glitch when our building permit/application went astray and was not addressed at a routine public hearing in July (conditional use and variance applications). Next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, so I hope we can begin breaking ground on Thursday! (crossing fingers)
Only a few weeks before the hard frosts start to set in... yikes!
