Found a new tool that is helping my friend, though I'd share

Hey, I'm helping my friend with the preliminaries of building her new house. She's talking long distance to the architect and some other people and needed help communicating what she wanted. I told her that I could help her and found this really cool free web tool called Qlipboard. It's like a slide-show presentation thing that allowed me to make little shows of pictures and stuff that she needs to show her architect while they are going over the plans. She thought it was really good, and told me that I should tell you guys about it.

She's visits here alot (because I told her about you guys about a year or so ago).

Anyway, here is a communique I sent to her architect to let him know some of the things she wants on her plans. We're going to make little presentations like this for her contractors and others that's involved with the build.

She thinks it will cut down on A LOT of planning time and get her EXACTLY what she wants in this build. What do you guys think about this?

If you guys want to know how to do it, just let me know and I'll give you instructions for how I did it. It wasn't hard and it didn't cost alot, just about 30 minutes of my time. I hope this will be helpful to someone.

That's a great idea. Having her exact words and the photo's leave little room for error on the architect's part. I'm sure the architect would appreciate this very much.

If I had known about this before I would have made one for my DH (he's buidling) and it would have saved a whole lot of arguments. HA! HA!

That is really a clever idea. My only problem would be finding the photos to illustrate my concepts. A lot of ours was so unusual that examples did not exist.

This is an excellent tool; wonder how many folks here will try it.

Hey Josh and a morning to you too! Boy, you are very keen on my plants! I should pick that, righ? Thanks buddy. Well, I learned my first lesson today~~~~ ! I lost that yellow flower due to too much sun! The sun came out for a couple of hours the other day and burnt it right off. Bummer. So I had to put this plant in morning sun with dabbled sunlight during the hottest part of the day. It is getting a new flower, so I hope to keep that one around longer. See? As the second flower you see on the right of the plant opens and ages, I will post for you all.

Vera I can use my circle hoe to dig a hole if I need to. That sucker is sharp (but doesn't hurt the user at least I haven't gotten hurt using it.) and it works the same way as a regular hoe but in a smaller scale and it is safer to use closer to the plants. It does rip out the plant from the roots and if you don't get all of the roots in the first pass then you can go back and do it until the roots are gone. I go walk about the garden with my circle hoe in hand and when I see a weed just yank the sucker up. easy as pie. Paula

Of those, I grow Saturnia and Purple Beauty -- and both require spraying here. Looking at the bloodlines of the other four you mention, I can see that they likely will also require spraying (strong Pernetiana and Charlotte Armstrong influence in the heritage). It actually looks pretty obvious from where I sit that these are not blackspot resistant roses that would be compatible with an organic/no spray gardening regime. We don't do blackspot here, but most any rose susceptible to our mildew here will also be susceptible to blackspot elsewhere. I can't think of any rose that mildews but does not blackspot, in appropriate geographical locations. For most areas (just not here), blackspot is the more severe affliction. Interestingly, there are a few roses that do get blackspot that do not mildew -- so it seems to be a one-way equation, as far as I can tell. You might want to concentrate on newer roses, if you are committed to the organics/no-spray course of rose growing. The reason is that, in the past, lesser air pollution controls -- the burning of dirtier coal and the spewing out of whatever into the air -- meant that roses received a sizable dose of sulphur (a very effective "organic" fungicide) just by virtue of growing in a populated area. Therefore, the older roses' breeders did not have to care very much about fungi in selecting which roses to introduce. That has all changed in the last twenty or so years. Generally speaking, with respect to "modern roses" only, the newer the rose, the more disease resistant. So, if you are "organic" and you want not to spray anything, even the "organics," then either go with the really old -- those survivors from cemetaries and so forth -- or the really much newer plants. Most anything from mid-century will be a disease problem for you. It wasn't that the breeders then were any less concerned about the health or beauty of their roses -- just that fungus-based disease was not really something they had to worry about. As I sit here, I'm trying to think of any modern rose introduced between say 1940 and 1980 that doesn't require spraying and I'm not coming up with much, which, I guess, is a large part of Vintage's problem. Vintage is however carrying quite a few rare, but newer roses now, including most of those recently imported by Eurodesert from Europe. Maybe you could look through that group. As a side note, the reason I put "organics" in quotes here is because lime sulphur, although officially an organic, is quite a bit more toxic to humans and wildlife than, say, Compass as a fungicide, and must be used more often and in higher doses to control anything. Firstly, I did not recommend OxyClean (nor would I do so). I have never used it and cannot comment on it. I have used PURE sodium percarbonate purchased under the brands (Ecover and BioVert). PM2, the fact that this article refers to sodium carbonate as baking powder (more than once) shows the lack of understanding (and fact checking) by its author. Sodium carbonate is washing soda (or soda ash) - DIFFERENT than baking powder (sodium bicarbonate). There is also a difference in using liquid hydrogen peroxide and dry sodium percarbonate. I think further investigation by PM2 would be in order. This article contains inaccuracies. While hydrogen peroxide solutions have the advantage over powdered products of being sold ready to use, powdered bleaches are easier to handle, have better storage stability and do not need any added chemicals to enhance stability. Powder versions also contain higher percentages of hydrogen peroxide (liquid versions are a high percentage of water).

Wow, pinktoes, I'm trying to wrap my head around the unusual stuff that did not exist . . . I'm coming up blank. Give me some examples of some of your non-existent stuff you wanted? Could you have drawn it? You mean there is no photo of the stuff you wanted ANYWHERE?

No, and you'll just have to trust me on that. If there had been, I could have gotten this thing designed a lot faster and a lot cheaper. In fact, had I spent the months and months we spent searching for floorplans just designing the thing myself, it would have gotten done a lot faster. Our house is, even to the architect and builder who have been doing custom work for decades, unique.

Yes, drawing things myself is the best way.

If your imagination fails you in generating examples of difficult-to-find design features, just take a look at
micahjo's post here and you'll find an example of a house with features it would be hard to find existing photos of. Not impossible, perhaps. Just probably so difficult that her time is better used designing it herself.

Nope, not making money off of anything that I'm talking about here. Been on these boards since 2003. Pretty aware of that rule.

If you are talking about my blog . . . I thought the rules stated that you can link at the bottom to your blog or website if you have one. However, my blog doesn't ask for money in any way to readers so I didn't think it was a money making effort.

I have not submitted any affiliate links on here. And there have been quite a few posts that don't mention my blog at all. So . . . no, I'm not trying to make any money off anyone.

Oh! Maybe because on the little videos I say something about getting step-by-step instructions? Nah, that's a free. I'm not selling anything, just wanted to help people. Made some step-by-step instructions for my friend so she could continue to talk to her architect about her plans for her custom house. Thought I'd offer it to you guys too.

Sorry, if it seemed shady -- didn't mean for it to come across that way.
