WANTED: A Chinese New Year goldmine from Goldgirl

After my post office sort of forgot to let me know I had a package (think Mayberry), I finally tracked it down last night. What fun...Goldgirl couldn't have done better.

First a nice letter and a gorgeous Chinese New Year card (we just had a Year of the Pig celebrations at our kids' programs.

Here's everything:

International: The Little Saigon Cookbook. Goldgirl saw that I've never tried Vietnamese food, so she made sure I have no excuse. DH said he spent a year in Vietnam and didn't eat Vietnamese food once...now that he is older and wiser, he can't wait to try it. The book came with a jar of lemongrass powder so I am ready to make....something. I think I'll be curling up with this book AND a strong, sweet cup of Vietnamese coffee this afternoon.

Cooking Method:Brewing...a Vietnamese coffee set. I can't wait to play with this (probably this afternoon when DH comes up for a break). I tried to get a shot of the insides...cool gadget. Fortunately GG thought to send a link to directions. There's two of them, along with coffee and sweetened condensed milk. (I may have to keep the can). GG says they make good iced coffee...now I can't wait for it to warm up!

Then came Ceramics: Oh, these are gorgeous. I love the shape and the color, and you can see how well they go with the candle holder (gift from the Kid) in the background:

We eat lots of rice bowls and stir-fry-sh things. These bowls will be perfect...

I have that cookbook! I think it's great. I love the coffee set and the bowls. I always get the "cafe sua da" at Vietnamese restaurants.

Frou, thank you. It is fun to see how differently we interpret our tables. OA, it said I have a kind and generous heart. Yachter, I had the vase first. I bought it cause I liked the shape. Karen, Jane said I was quick like a bunny.LOL It was a fast turn around, but I wanted to use the blue and white plates, I already had taken Phil's picture, and Groundhog Day is kind of a 1 day shot anyway. (Unless you're trapped in the movie, LOL) SG, thanks for letting me know. I like the part about prosperity and joy!! Pat, I have lots of bunnies for Easter!! Thanks everyone! We've just returned from our Chinatown excursion. It was a long but fun day. We ate a lot of Chinese baked buns: cocktail buns, pineapple buns, BBQ pork buns, and hotdog buns! Little man and I joked about our fun buns lunch! LOL We went to the Chinese Cultural Center but things were not quite set up. Seemed like they were not going to be ready until this weekend. So we went to visit a few Chinese grocery stores. OMG, it was like a zoo everywhere. People were shopping like crazy. No surprise though, two more days of shopping before the big day. We bought a pack of Chinese New Year treat called Cows Ears, some deep fried cookies, for the occasion. But we were out for so long that we ended up eating the whole bag before making it home! LOL Image of Cows Ears: Then I bought these gorgeous Chinese kumquat (like mini oranges). They are small but sweet in a strange way. Hard to explain. I did save some for the Tray of Togetherness. Image of kumquats: We are going to the zoo all day tomorrow so I will make the shrimp dumplings tonight. Will start the chicken congee in the slow cooker before we leave tomorrow morning. By the time we get home we will just heat up the shrimp dumplings and eat them with the chicken congee. Should be another fun day for us. By the way, hubby and little man just ate two of the Lo Mai Gai and they LOVED it. So it's worth the time making them. :-) Al

Last year was the year of the Pig. The first 2 e-cards were from last year. This is the year of the Rat, the 3rd Card. As for the Chinese Astrology Donna, don't let it bother you. The astrology you read is in very general and may not apply specifically to you entirely. Each of the 12 animals (12-year cycle) has prefixes which based by the 5 elements of water, wood, metal, fire and earth. ie: This year, the rat is preceiding by "Wu or Mau", which is the wood element. Find out which year you were born and which is the prefix for your year. It maybe that the year you were borned is one of the element that get along fine with "wood" and thus, many of the bad months may not be as bad as you think if not even at all bad. If you want to believe in Astrology, then, follow it in details all the way through. Meaning, that you'd need to give an astrologer, your date, month, year, time and location of birth for the astrologer to see the exact path of your destiny. Other than that, I'd recommend to read it for fun and not taking it in so literally and personally. My dad was a great Astrologer and as much as I enjoyed listening to his explanation of things, he understood that I didn't want to learn of my future path. He respected that from everyone and never told unless we'd ask. How great he was? Sadly, he predicted the year and cause of his death. Truly, why would anyone want to know when he/she die? Just enjoy each day fully and remember this old saying from my country: "Within the bad, arises the good". Remember when you made mistakes (bad)? How many things you've learned from it (good)? hi, sorry for your loss. may I be the first to offer guidance lesson 1# KEEP FINGERS BACK lesson 2# keep fingers back. lesson3# make sure what you are cutting is secure, held down, clamped, a flying objest is just as scary as the blade. you do not say what model /year the tools are but I can say that some of the older model tools are a lot better than the new ones, and usually are worth fixing if in need of repair. the older models usally need new cords, a little cleaning, sometimes repair to the motors , and is worth the cost especially witht he resonal value. I did not check where you are from but there are a lot of sources for help , family , friends, actually it is kind of a guy thing but there are a lot of men who would get a kick from showing a female how to run tools and are glad to pass on the skills. here locally there are a lot of places to learn for free , community centers, 4-h, colleges, start calling around, if he used this stuff very much or had a shop it is the little stuff that is the coolest to have . like the pencil , notes, favorite screwdriver, tapemeasure is a big one, stuff that got used a lot . thanks Rick
