I buy my ink at my local Walmart. I can buy it cheaper there and it is the same brand as if I ordered it from my printer manufacturer website. When I bought my new printer, I bought it online from Walmart. The ink price for one black ink cartridge is 14.99 and the color is 19.99. Added together, that is cheaper than one cartridge of ink for the old Deskjet 932C I had. I gave that printer along with my old scanner and my old HP computer to a friend who has 2 children and didn't have a computer for her kids to learn with. I also gave her the spare ink I had for it so she did not have to go out and buy new ink. My printer now is an all in one and use No.s 21, 21XL and 22, 22XL Tri-color , Photo print ink cartridge 58.

Well, this tightwad (me) had her cartridges go empty maybe a year ago. I bought a refill kit on Ebay, and filled both the black and the color. The color was an off color, so I just quit using it (color)altogether, and choose to print most all things in black quick print, thus saving ink with that too. Needless to say, I'm not doing photos, or anything that has to have the color to make it worthwhile. I suppose if I ever do, I'll just have a friend print it for me, or get it at the library, for a few cents per copy. Now, does that put me in the running for resident tightwad? I get my Epson cartridges on eBay;they're a generic type & work just fine. Even w/shipping, I end up paying about $1.14 for the black ones. To stretch that dollar even further, I take the empties to Staples where I get a $3.00 credit;my copy paper ends up costing me $.99 a ream. I'll take a bow, now, for being the resident tightwad. Is that right? $1.14 for a black cartridge? Wow...what a bargain! After 4.5 years, it still spits out the pages without problems. The new Canon brand refill cartriges are about $12. Other brands are cheaper. Sounds like a terrific printer and very resonable replacement cartidges. Hmmmm, when I am forced to buy new cartridges (can no longer fill these), I may be in the market for a newer printer, which is cheaper to 'run'. Sue

Anyone use the inexpensive replacement inkjet cartridges from companies like LDproducts? For my Canon printer, they have 15 cartridges for $40. Probably made to a low quality standard in China, but the price is so attractive compared to the Canon OE cartriges at $10-12 apiece. Ilene, good suggestion about the .pdf file "print" software that is free for download. The one I use is primo.pdf. I don't think everyone knows about this useful option. I get a very long life out of Canon S600 cartridges by using the custom print setting with fast print quality and auto (fast) halftoning. This results in less ink use than with the draft setting. They both say 600 dpi, but this custom setting is faster and the text is grey black instead of jet balck with the draft setting. It also works fine with color maps I print. Text is still highly legible and makes two sided printing not show through the page. Cost per page is very low, even with the Canon cartridges. You can save custom settings with most printers.

Depending upon the country of origin [where they were made] that "aroma" may be from a pesticide spray used by the manufacturer to prevent pests from invading either the raw materials or the finished product. Personally, I'd return them and look for another manufacturer. This type of aroma is becoming quite a health issue these days...especially from certain countries. For those who are less physically sensitive to this type of thing, it might not be a problem. But to someone like me...I'd have several types of reactions to the product...not the least of which would be a lung problem...as in asthma. I discovered this when I bought a catalogue clothing item that gave off the same type aroma. No matter how often I washed it, it never quite rid the fabric of the aroma. HTH Anne
