For two years I struggled to keep our tub and shower clean. My husband works in a job where he gets full of grease. Two years ago when we had the tub and shower put in, it was stressed that the wrong cleaner could void the warranty. We tried what was recommended with no luck. It was just terrible. I was embarrassed for anyone to even see our tub and shower. A year or two ago I purchased Mr. Clean 2 in 1 Eraser. I had never tried it before. Ya know how you buy something and it sits under the kitchen sink forgotten about? Well, It resurfaced as I was cleaning this morning. I thought what the heck... I used it on my fiberglass tub and shower this morning. It was a fricken miracle. I really wish I had taken a before and after picture. It looks like the day they put it in new. Please just try it. You won't be sorry. I promise. It took about 10 minutes and it was in bad shape. Mr. Clean 2 in 1 Eraser. =-)

Well, I don't love mine- but it could be as old as 30 years+. We've been in this house 13 years, and it was already there and well-used when we moved in. When we gut the BR I guess maybe we'll find out if there was anything else there before. And it's more because it is tiny- inside dimensions of 28X30. Certainly don't find it stains- I used a steamer and Oxy-clean to get PO's dirt off, and try to squeegee it after each use- DH couldn't be bothered- not worth nagging him as we're replacing it soon anyways. My Mom built a fairly high end luxury home and put two in her two guest baths- She loves them and definitely the ease of cleaning is an important bonus for her as she approaches her 80's. (In fact, she may have one in her Master shower- I've just never been in there!)

Posting a drawing won't help since the space is only 50 sq. feet with the room shaped like one of those neo-angle showers with the door opening on that angled side. In addition to the corner post I was referring to, we also have to contend with an area in a different corner that is sloped because it is under a stairway. Our current shower is about 3' x 4' and we really do not want to go any smaller than this. I've heard back from my contractor who says that since the floor will be dug into anyway, we can move things around at no additional cost if we keep the plumbing within three feet of where it is now. So, at least in theory that gives me some more choices maybe. We are fortunate in that we are not in the position of saying we can absolutely only spend xxx. However, for a basement shower enclosure there is no way in the world I want to pay $1500 to $2500 just for glass (and probably a lot more if I try to go with what I want which is a shower that has two glass sides). These are ballpark prices I found from an old thread here on how much frameless glass costs. "$1,400 - $1,900 for most showers including installation, 10 ml glass, door, fixed panel and hardware. Larger showers with multiple sides, special hardware can range from $ 2,500 - $8,000 +" And another from a month ago. " There are a lot of options in hardware and glass. Expect 1700-2500. Depending on options and how square the opening is." Actually we are planning to do all of the tiling ourselves after the contractor frames it and gets the cement board up. So that is my DIY savings possibility. Now I am back to the question one again though of whether a tile floor, rather than using one of the standard acrylic pans that comes with enclosures, will force me into the custom glass category. Maybe it needs a middle hinge? Not an option. Tempered glass can't be drilled or cut. What gives is gravity. After 3 years of use, it is possible that the hinges have worn and developed some play. The only things that I can see/ think of is to remove a hinge and see how much slop there is between the holes in the glass and the screws/ posts that go thru the glass. And possibly the hinges may have developed slop due to use, time, gravity. Perhaps a combo of rubber grommets to reduce screw hole slop and new hinges might fix the problem for a couple/ three more years. One other thing--possibly the screws are loosening up just a bit and allowing the door to slip. Because of being part of a moving part as well as being repeatedly loosened & tightened trying to readjust the door. If that is the case, then try some Loctite (thread locker).
