CCleaner V 2.09

Hi,

Okay so I was in the process of finally going to install CCleaner. I got as far as the part where you set options. Everything was checked, so should I leave all checked or uncheck some of these things before proceding?

Add Desktop Shortcut ... I will uncheck this one.

Add Start Menu Shortcuts

Add Run CCleaner option to Recycle Bin context menu

Add Open CCleaner option to Recycle Bin contxt menu

Automatically check for updates to CCleaner

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks once again. If you think I will run across anything else ya think I may need help with while installing, please let me know. Oh I have MS XP

I always uncheck these 3.
Add Run CCleaner option to Recycle Bin context menu
Add Open CCleaner option to Recycle Bin contxt menu
Automatically check for updates to CCleaner

I don't like context menu handlers.
I don't like programs phoning home all the time to check for updates.

Doesn't hurt to check them all, just my personal feelings.
If you didn't get the slim version, uncheck to install yahoo or google toolbar, whichever they're offering, unless you want it.

You know they're up to version 2.11.636, so v2.09 is old.

Automatically check for updates to CCleaner. I would uncheck this item because it will be running on the pc all the time, you can check for updates yourself.

I would not allow site advisor to update in fact it is no longer on any of my machines, you can remove it from add remove programs. it once was a good tool, but it got very greedy and wanted to really take over and stopped letting people make changes to it,and started installing components with out letting people know just like what just happened to you with that application installer cleanup app, that upset a lot of people and many many people left it then which is when I left it. It is McAfee ! Now instead we suggest using WOT on all the browsers it does a better job and it is not intrusive into the system. Safe Browsing tool WOT Web of Trust I will see if Bill P the creator of winpatrol has a simple tutorial or if he knows of one and let you know. I know that Corrine has done some tutorials on it in the past.

Simply opening the program once it is installed should prompt the user that a newer version is avaiable.

Hi,
I dbl clicked on the setup and you get the security warning box with do you want to run etc.. it says on there ccsetup209_slim.exe

Should I proceed? Will it automatically update to the newer versio as I go along or should I just go get the new slim version and start over? Thanks.

I would personally always choose to download and install the newest version rather than an old one it is just the easy & safe thing to do.

if it tries to give you extras like the toolbar be sure you uncheck that.

I uncheck everything except start menu shortcut. I also uncheck Google toolbar. I've never uninstalled the older version first. I just let it in and never had a problem. I have it on 4 machines and have used it for years.

I am not a fan of overwrite installations. Unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer I personally recommend a user always do a delete and clean install. This reduces the amount of abandoned files and dlls on a system, the chances of conflicts between the current version and prior version, and the occasional duplicity of icons on the Desktop along with Start Menu entries.
