What email program do you use to download the comcast emails with?

I have no idea.....they download directly to "smart zone" on my Comcast home page. I use that as my email . I've thought about using Firefox's thunderbird, but am having a hard enough time adjusting to the new computer right now....used the old one for almost ten years. I am running Windows 7 , IE8.

With Comcast's Smart Zone you're viewing your emails online. When you were using Outlook Express you were downloading the emails and viewing them offline. I don't know if there is a way to upload your contacts to Comcast or not. You could certainly use Outlook or another email program like Thunderbird with Comcast if that is what you prefer.

Yes, on-line and on-board are two different locations.

Why not just forward the wanted e-mails to the Comcast account? Even if they are all one in the same, just an access difference, you could resend them to the same account. If that's the case just don't use the on-board client.

I've tried clicking on the "doc" file holding the mail and forwarding to my email and I get a " control panel must have a program associated with this to open the document". It will not open with notepad....tried that. Any other suggestions?

You are supposed to be able to import address book/contacts to Comcast's Smart Zone webmail. I've never been able to do it myself. I only use their webmail when traveling so it hasn't been a huge problem. I think their Smart Zone program is a cumbersome mess and I would never use it daily. Their previous webmail version was much more user friendly. They do have a support forum but it is hard to find.....

I have comcast and have never used the email feature, did set up an email when I first got it but I don't think I have ever been back to it. I much prefer using hotmail or gmail or gmx.com.

bors, we posted at the same time in this thread so you may not have seen my post. I tried importing and exporting an address book in the smartzone and it worked fine. I posted how I did it in that thread.

I have managed, with the help here to move the address book to Thunderbird, but now, it will not auto complete the addresses or call up the book when I ask it to, And, when a person's name does come up, the " nickname" is their address. It's all tooooo much and I'm thinking of trying Windows live. Any yeas or nays ?

I found Thunderbird to be confusing and somewhat hard to use, so I finally changed to Windows Live Mail. It's more like OE, so the change wasn't too hard to make.

There are too many other ways to do things to keep trying to use something that doesn't work for you. I happen to like Thunderbird and could never get used to Outlook Express or Outlook. I know many - maybe a majority - of users have the opposite experience.
