New Wolf induction cooktop

I was surfing which is usually a bad thing to do and looked at the Wolf website.
I discovered my cooktop is old and obsolete!
The new version has a 5 way bridge - not like the Gag freedom but does allow you to bridge 2 or even all 4 burners.
I showed DH and he said "that's nice but ours isn't that old".
It also stayed with the single timer vs the individual timers like the miele.

That bridge thing is nifty, gemini-gem. i haven't paid scrupulous attention to the flex induction, but I don't see how this Wolf does not compare re bridging and flex.

Actually, in practice, I think your ancient Wolf and my ancient Bosch can bridge, even without special bridge or flex functions. Here's how. But I havent tried to jerryrig a bridge function, never needed to.

Each hob of my Bosch works with all size pans, except for possibly 'too small' ones. My Bosch also works if the pot is partially off the hob. I concede that it may take a nanosecond more if off the hob. (Heat on the bottom of the pot travels to all areas of the pot, a nanosecond more or less). I don't know or remember the scientific term for the travelability of heat within a pot.

So if you put a big, big pot, say, a fish poacher, partially on and off a hob or two or three, I think it will still work. And my experience is that if a pot works on induction, it works well. My cheap pots=my not as cheap pots. (This is an unexpected and stellar feature, to me.)

Therefore, double-gem, I think your fancypants 'ancient' Wolf will bridge and flex just like the gag/therm/bosch of today.

i wonder why Wolf did not do shut-off timers on each hob. Doesn't make sense to me. Bosch is half the price of Wolf. Perhaps Bosch is such a high volume mfr-their presence in the european market, that they can afford the r and d and manufacture of an additional component or two? I do not use the timers much, other than for rice. (I have to re-remember how it works, each time, lol)

That Wolf is gorgeoso and the bridge is sexy.

West - the wolf rep said I could bridge as long as I stayed away from the control panels
I saw the innards of another brand and would be concerned about the wiring pattern and would like to see where the wires go before officially bridging.

I never had the individual timers and maybe I would like them. Sometime, I feel like timeritis with 5 timers in the kitchen already.

I agree the new wolf sure is sexy looking! I will have to ogle for now. We have bathrooms and hardwood floors before a new wolf. Plus the cost puts it out of range for now...I got a good deal on my current one (wolf was having a sale)

You are welcome - there's been a lot of discussion on this and I was hoping I could wait. Things were becoming so wacky with scheduling that I decided to go with the Viking hybrid. I really want the Wolf though. My salesman knows this so he may let me exchange. Which electric do you have - the 30" or 36". I started to get the radiant electric - back in April when I first started this. It's a beautufil machine!! Take care... gng

I'm afraid I can't help with finding a metal drawer, but I wonder if it's really necessary, or just CYA on Wolf's part.I have a Kitchenaid induction cooktop, and it only gets slightly warm under there sometimes, like when I boil or cook something a long time. In fact, I think most of the heat may be the referred heat from the bottom of the pan back down through the ceran. Underneath the cooktop is a regular wood drawer, probably 3" deep, containing cooking utensils. The drawer does not seal airtight when it closes - there are these little rubber stops about 1/8" thick or so, and so the warm air could get out if it needed to. But it doesn't get anywhere near warm enough to even melt wax, much less start a wood fire. Some induction cooktops required several inches of clearance underneath - I think GE wanted 12 inches. KA didn't. I really doubt there is any big difference that would make the Wolf hotter than KA. Check on the Appliances forum for discussions of heat under induction cooktops and whether the clearance is really necessary. I seem to remember some earlier users also asserting that there is no significant heat buildup underneath. If you're not able to find a metal drawer, I hope this info helps. Cooking with induction is so wonderful, it will be worth any hassle you go through now to get it.

I saw the newest Wolf induction cooktop and I was impressed with its versatility. Specifically, I am speaking of model CI365T/S. I really like the burner layout with the four burners that can be bridged on one side and a larger oval burner on the other side. It offers what seems to be the most flexible layout. There are other induction cooktops with "flexible" zones but they are in a layout that is less versatile, most commonly with a large round hob in the center and the flexible zones on either side. My building does not have gas so when I upgrade, I will be looking at induction. As of now, I think the Wolf is my favorite but I am a year or two out and something new may change my thinking.

@aspen75, I have that same griddle that I use on mine. I understand and experience what you are saying and it is a bit of a disappointment. However, it has never hindered my cooking abilities on it. I mainly use my griddle for fish, shrimp, or pancakes (DH sometimes uses it for squash and zucchini) and because the heat ends up dispersing throughout the griddle, I never have issues with the food I cook. Sometimes I might have to move my fish or shrimp around as it cooks, but it still cooks. I'm still very pleased with my Wolf and so glad I went with it over gas, which we had before and which definitely had far worse hotspots. I have not tried a cast iron griddle on mine because I like the ease of cleaning the one I do have. Plus, I have a Blackstone on my patio just off my kitchen and I use it a ton in the spring, summer, and fall when I truly need a griddle ;)
