Our daughter had the Alltel internet service and she didn't like it....kept getting disconnected. What we did, was drop our landlines and got wireless internet service. All I needed on my computer was a network card. I have a small antenna on my roof, it plugs into the network card, or in my case, into my router and I can have my 3 computers online at once. We now have 2 cell phones, faster wireless internet and saving about $40 a month. (we had 3 phone lines + my cell phone). and we had our home phone numbers ported to our cell phones.

Before you go spending money, let's try a few things. When you took your router to default, everything worked fine. When you use a pass phrase, you get to the internet but web sites don't load. I have a copy of your router manual in front of me so let's try a few steps. 1------Log onto your router 2------Under the wireless setup make sure the SSID reads NETGEAR 3------Make sure the operating channel for the wireless mode.is Auto. 4------ Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 145Mbps for 2.4GHz. 5------ Select security options for the 2.4GHz wireless network.The wireless Security Options are set to None by default. 6-----use WPA2-PSK as your security option. 7----- enter the following as your passphrase wndr3400 make all letters lower case. Select APPLY at the bottom of the screen. Under DIAGNOSTICS, select the REBOOT option. Once the router reboots, close out all your screens and reboot you computer. When prompted for a passphrase enter wndr3400 all letters must be lower case. Please post back and let us know if that did the trick.

Try contacting Verizon or Sprint in your area and get a wireless card referred to as "Air Card" they sometimes work in areas where DSL service is not avaliable and you can take it with you anywhere (love mine and get transfer rates of over 1,000kbps - test speed at - http://www.abeltronica.com/velocimetro/pt/?idioma=uk&newlang=uk ) Not easily networkable though if that is something you are trying to do. We got sucked into Hughes Net last year and had to spend almost $1,000 to get installed since there are trees around and they could not mount on the house - Its speed is OK faster than dial up and works 90% of the time (sometimes rain or cloudy days kick it off) Transfer speeds not even near what they tout on TV. I would only get Hughes again as a LAST resort - you have to get an 18 month minimum plan and it really starts to rack up especially if DSL service may be available to you in 6 mos or so. (You can cancel early for a fee.)
