it should be fine it just compresses the pages so they load faster.

the new Opera is very impressive, I wish they would let us use our firefox add ons then it would be about prefect, I just can not live with out my add ons they simplify my life and that is important.
Hopefully they will start an add ons option too.

Try it. From what I know, it's not going to do anything harmful to other programs...it just changes the way Opera works. If you try it and don't like it, you can always turn it off.

I love Opera. I know FF has add-ons that do what Opera does 'out of the box,' like mouse gestures, Wand, etc. But to me Opera performs those tasks much more smoothly.

My only two complaints:

1. Not all sites allow Opera (you get a warning about having an inadequate browser -- sigh). But you can get by some of these issues by having Opera 'mask as' FF or IE.

2. I use webmail interfaces exclusively for my email accounts, and prefer using html when composing/sending email. Only a few of my accounts (Fastmail, Google Apps, Yahoo) have interfaces that allow html composing with Opera. Others (EuMX, Polaris) don't. :-(

I am playing around with Opera now and must say I finally found a browser I LOVE in place of IE!

One thing I miss in IE is that I had a whole string of "Home Made" "Tabs" lined up across the top to where I just clicked to open the site I wanted.
Am new to this Tab thing and experimenting if I can do what I had rigged up in IE. I found the File/Save session thing to see?

I sure am TICKLED with Opera!

Tabs are hard to get the hang of but once you do you will wonder how you did with out them..

Are you talking about "saved sessions" ? If so, in Opera you can simply go to Tools > Preferences and on the General tab you choose how you want Opera to start up. Choices include: Continue from last time, and Continue Saved Sessions.

Opera is very customizeable and the Opera help forum is very active and informative. (I usually post my questions in the Browser forum, of course.)

Are you talking about "saved sessions" ? Yes, I was experimenting to see if the sites I visit would save the Tabs to click on. Mine disappear after I X out of them. (Tab)

Boo, hiss!! I just went to my bank site and got a message that as of Oct. 1, I must use either IE or FF, that my current browser (Opera) will no longer be supported! If it weren't such a hassle, I'd change banks! That's how much I like Opera.

I've always liked opera but one little thing keeps me from using it. For example, when I visit a thread on this forum the link to the thread changes to red. Good. But when new posts are added to the thread it stays red instead of turning to blue like it does in other browsers and like it did in opera several versions ago. It forced me to try firefox which I like a lot. Just tried opera 10 and because of that one little thing I will not switch back. I want to know when there are new posts in a thread without opening it to see or having to remember the time I last checked.

look into the speed dial function of Opera it may well take care of what you are describing urlee for your list of tabed sites.

Well, no browser's perfect. "eye roll>

One thing you can try is to go to a site that doesn't recognize/like Opera and right-click, then click "edit site preferences." Go to Network and at the bottom you'll see a drop-down menu with four options (identify as FF or as IE; mask as FF or IE). Choosing 'mask' is the 'stronger' function, though it doesn't always work. Try closing the page (or even the browser entirely) and then go back to the site and see if it works.

(Others at the Opera forums have complained about banking sites not wanting to play nice with Opera. You may want to check out those threads.)

Another option is, when you're at a site (like your banking site's homepage), right-click and go down to 'open with' and it will give you the option to open that site's page in IE or FF. IOW, you won't have to open FF and then navigate to your bank's page. Opera will do that part for you.

Re: pronunciation:

AH-per-ah is a browser and a musical event.
O-per-ah is a talk show host.

I also noticed that by being on the "speed dial" it degrades photos I post and ones I have in Photobucket but so far like Opera to keep using it.
There is a new Opera coming out called Opera Unite.

I FINALLY experienced what the function of TABS are and how they work!
Took a Loooong time to soak in but it did!
What a wonderful "invention".

I get what they are trying to do with Opera Unite but I sure do agree with the article in saying that is quite scary using the link to serve as access to your hard drive, even though it is sandboxed recently there were infections that were found to be able to penetrate sandboxes, not sure I would feel safe with the share aspect, just verges on the sharing aspects of p2p and well no way do I allow that on any of my computers.
It is a very neat idea if they could perfect the security aspects.
