Well now, you seem to have already graduated from 'computer 101' by virtue of your lurking and learning.

Forget the 'teddy bear' incident, it happened for whatever reason and you are long past the incident. You will learn that with computers any problem is/was caused by the other user. Simple fact of life. The cure? Buy a second computer and tell him to keep off it LOL.

If you see a thread started that might fit your scenario but you are not clear on the answers then jump in and ask for clarification on the parts you do not understand. That is not necessarily hijacking the thread as long as it stays relevant to the original posters problems. Or you could simply start your own thread and link back to the original thread that caught your attention which is probably the better way to do it.

Regarding your current problem you could tell us the make and model of the computer and what program you are using for your emails and for surfing. Is the error message only 'error database 2000' or is there more there?

Yes, give the information that owbist requested, and, hopefully, someone here will have an answer for you.

As to learning more about computers, just keep lurking and reading and asking questions. That is how we all learn from each other.

From what I can tell, we have a DELL Dimension 8300, Intel, Pentium4. Installed is Microsoft Windows Version 2002, Microsoft Outlook 2002. Internet is LAN/High Speed, Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. Is this info helpful for you to help me?

Hmm. I forgot to add the error messages.

When trying to open the attachment, a box shows up saying 'Error Opening Database: 2000'. 2nd box states 'Cannot find file specified' (or something along that line, I did not write it down, then when I reposted GW told me I'd already submitted and could not resubmit unless I change the Subject line, so now my memory on those error boxes has vaporized a bit). Thanks much again.

My viewpoint - learning more about computers: Certainly asking questions of others about computers is one the things to do, but I try to find the answer myself. When I end up blank or with just a piece of the answer, I'll ask. Almost all my answers come from searching the web using Yahoo, Google, MS, software and equipment dealer websites, and others. On the way to answering it yourself, you'll pick up a few tidbits of information but if not the complete answer - then go for the question. You'll be just a little smarter than by just asking for the answer as a first step.

Before my retirement, working with computers, if I needed help I always asked the youngest person I could find in the office. (Remotely related perhaps, I was confused by some Dish Network options that I could not find in the Dish manual. A friends 13 year old explained them.)

Shboom: That is what worked! I did not find a JPEG file specifically, mine was labelled JPG, but now I can view the photos the way we used to. Now, do I have to figure out why things changed (or else blame it on other members of the household!)?

I went on Google afterwards, all I had keyed in were key words 'database 2000', and then added 'error', and did not come across the Dell site, but when I tried 'database 2000' with the word 'dell', voila. So I am at fault for not searching thoroughly enough. Thank you for taking the time to find this for me. Hopefully this situation won't come up again (and probably wouldn't - more likely a new one will!) and then I will search longer for an answer. I dislike relying on the kindness here on this forum when I feel I don't have the computer knowledge to share back.

I didn't even know how to turn on my compter when I first got one! I started picking up computer magazines and read everything in them and now my 3 daughters call me when they have computer troubles!
Check out Walmarts magazine and look at the computer magazines and if you see a topic or two in one of them, buy it. They where very helpful to me.
