Unless you are an experienced user please consider avoiding betas. They can cause headaches as they are unfinished releases that are in-progress for users to test. There can be several beta releases of an application as concerns are discovered, and remedies are achieved. There is even another step before actual public release called RC, or Release Candidate. There can be multiple RC releases too.

In the article ravencajun linked to, the author noted, "Although I have only had IE9 installed for a couple of hours, I already appreciate the increased webpage viewing area of IE9 over previous versions of Internet Explorer.

I found this partly true and partly false. ISTM that there is some wasted space (whether this is in IE9 or also previous versions, I don't know). E.g. I downloaded the WOT add-on for IE9 and it created its own toolbar with only the WOT icon on it ! No way to hide it. Only remove the toolbar and simultaneously remove WOT ! :-( I did that and can't get it back ! I tried RE-downloading the WOT add on but it still doesn't show up.

Btw, at the same time the title bar was all but empty. It seemed like a lot of wasted (precious) screen real estate.

Betas.... ....sigh...

You dont need wot with IE8 or ie9.
It does its own version of same thing - stock equiptment in IE.

I hope you work out IE9b as you want it, but you were alerted to the potential risks with a beta.

WOT has to work that way on IE it is due to the nature of IE, we have another thread here recently discussing that. WOT does not have to install that way on firefox. I simply will not browse with out WOT on my browser on a windows pc.

@ DA: Yeah, I know. Betas are betas for a reason. ;-) I've tried other betas in the past -- some worked fine, others not. Fortunately for me, I don't really use IE. I was just playing around with it to see if it could lure me away from FF, Iron, or Opera. So far, not a chance.

@ mikie: I'm not sure what you mean about IE having its own version of doing the same thing. Do you mean protection from malicious sites in general ? Or do you mean some sort of display icon or warning that the person browsing can see, like the WOT donut ?
