Farmville

OK, I've probably been living under a rock, but I have a question about this game.

Do you HAVE to have a Facebook account to play it?

DH's cronnies are talking about it, and he called me with "WTH is a Farmville?"

Renee, I think you do have to have a Facebook account to play.

Ashley started a farm for Makayla, so now I have to sign on every time she comes here so she can "take care of the farm".

The allure escapes me, but Makayla loves it. Of course, she's 6.

Thanks, Annie. He had no idea what they were talking about, but I think he was hoping it was like the old Sim ity series -- single player and local on the harddrive. He's not going to be interested if he has to join Facebook.

I think he's looking for a "on the road" activity. I told him to take up scrimshaw. :)

sorry for the delay in responding -i have been focused on other things -the trip was fine -my friend bought a piece for her hallway and a chair for her husband's office -i bought nothing -a lot of piece are, I think, from High Point showrooms after market or from Designer Showhouses -so many of the upholstered items are in neutrals or fabrics i would not use- they have a huge selection of rugs but i did not think the prices were great - it's definitely an experience - my friend had been there before when she had a huge house to furnish -and she had a terrific experience

Lovely Amish made furniture in Farmville

We did the 3+ hour drive from Northern Virginia to Farmville to look for furniture. We did the 650,00- sq ft of Green Front stores plus a couple of smaller stores. We started at Amish Originals for a table and chairs and ended up back there after looking at everything Green Front had to offer. The fit and finish was just too nice to pass up. They have what I would consider more country/mission pieces that I wasn't as interested in (but were lovely and incredibly comfortable) ....plus some slightly more elegant "empire" and "carlise shaker" chairs - http://www.amishoriginals.net/index.php?p=chair23 Really nice stuff. Quality; solid cherry (or oak/maple) We met these people 2 years ago at the Timberframe/Log home expo in Chantilly, VA. I think that show is happening again this weekend. It isn't cheap but it isn't much more than some cheap imports. Approx 300-350 a chair depending on style and 1400 for a 6 ft table plus 100 a leaf. (Cherry) Delivery was cheap, too. Anyone else buy it? Are they at the show this weekend offering show discounts? :=)

Is it worth a trip to Farmville,VA to buy furniture?

I used to live in Charlottesville, VA and it was a 2 hour drive to Farmville to shop at Green Front. Absolutely it's worth it! Incredible selection of mid-high end furniture arrayed in 9 tobacco warehouses --- which are HUGE! And they have an incredible assortment of hand-knotted Oriental carpets -- over 3,000 of them. I've purchased quite a bit of furniture there, plus several Oriental carpets at tremendous savings. They delivered to my home in Charlottesville....Things I could take home in my car, I did. Also, whenever I had guests, they wanted to drive to Farmville to shop for furniture. I definitely recommend it. Plan to shop all day....There are several nice hotels/motels in the area if you want to make a weekend of it. To see the brands they carry, visit their home page and you'll see all of the brands. I'm very, very happy with everything I purchased there. Do plan to walk between the warehouses, which are all clustered in downtown Farmville. And then you'll be walking through these huge warehouses, with their multiple levels. So wear comfortable shoes. And dress warmly, because the warehouses are not heated to normal room temps....they're heated, but not to 72 degrees. Here is a link that might be useful: Green Front Furniture

Yes, that's right, it's a Facebook game. I have stayed away from it because I know I will get hooked, and I don't have time. I keep getting notices that someone has found a lost black calf on their Farmville farm or that someone has fertilized their fields and what a good farmer they are. I have several Friends who are playing. Also Yo-ville, Bejeweled Blitz and one particularly wacky Friend is playing Mafia Wars. You know who you are! She has snuffed out several gangsters, in between cooking and caring for her grandchildren. Too funny!!

I love doing crosswords and the cryptogram, but not on Facebook.

I get notices like that on Facebook as well, but I have not participated because I don't want to be a farmer and I don't have time. I barely have time to look at facebook at all or to keep up with email, and I don't even have that many friends on facebook. I grew up on a farm, and I don't want to be reminded of it.

Lars, I keep telilng Ashley and Makayla that if they want to feed the livestock and grow crops and fertilize fields, they should get right out to the farm and DO IT! (grin)

Somehow the reality of farming is not as much fun as the game, I guess.

Thanks, Maggie. I'll let him know.

He likes to keep a very low (as in none) on-line visibility, so he wouldn't care about the social network aspect of it anyway. Maybe I'll just buy him the latest version of Sim City. :)

Love it too. Keeps my sanity while studying and allows me to have more animals without bringing them home ;)
