Okay. So I'm feeling reassured. I'll back up my data files again. Is there a simple command to back them all up at once - or a whole group at once. I'm sure the instructions are simple, but I've never done it. Grandms - I don't save most email, but I do save some. Some that are from a professional organization I'm on the Board of. Others that might include professional recommendations (plumbers, petsitters, etc) - things like that. I'm on a couple of listservs that often have very useful compilations of resources and professional recommendations.

You can enter securities transactions, but the more specific update is that you can't enter any more than 99,999 shares in any one given transaction. Since I trade on the OTC sometimes, I have more than 100,000 shares in several transactions. SO, I was forced to use TaxAct, which just has a 15 character limit in the description line. Intuit lost me on that, had no choice. I can also say, now that I've filed AND gotten my returns accepted, that TaxAct was almost as easy as TurboTax -- the only problem was ease of navigation, and the significantly lower cost made the *only somewhat* less easy navigation very easy to take. But the rest of it was fine. OH, the only other problem was that I couldn't import from ItsDeductible, since ID has an exclusive w/Intuit. So I paid for the ID ($20) and paid for the state and local prep/filing (16), grand total of $36 and I'm done. Their communications were timely and much more helpful than Intuit's ever were. They want business, they don't expect it, iykwim. And please note: TaxACT is NOT TaxCUT. The link is below. I learned about them through a review of this year's TurboTax on Amazon. Kudos to TaxAct. Thirdfrt, Just for your information, The basic inheritance, is the cost mom paid for it and the money you received for the house, the difference is technically your capital gain, minus all fees to sell it. Ex- mom paid 5,000.00 you sold for 100,000 and had 6,000 in fees to sell the home. Technically, you made 89,000.00 on the property. I would consult a tax professional for read up online at the irs website on inheritance and capital gain. I don't think you would pay any capital gain on the house only because it was an inheritance and depending on the amount of money, which is small, you probably don't have any tax on it. You can't claim a loss on a situation where you can't prove you actually lost money by selling the property, which you didn't, because you didn't pay for the property and it has accumulated some value since your mom bought it.

We've used Tax Slayer for about 5 years... never had a problem. We pay $9.95 for e-filing... otherwise both federal and state are free.
