Need A Free Program

A while back I picked up a Trojan. I took the computer to the fix-it guy. He cleaned it up, but he had to nearly wipe out the entire system. Thankfully, he was able to save my pictures.

I have reloaded the obvious (to me) programs, but I do not know what program I need so that I can burn a disc. I was able to do it before the Trojan. Now when I try to do it, I get a message that the task cannot be completed. I know I'm missing a program, but don't know what.

Is there a free something on the web that I can download?

What operating system does the computer have?
What anti virus are you running? Is it up to date?
What anti malware programs are you using? Are they up to date and when did you last run a scan?

If you have XP you should have no difficulty burning a CD but will need third party software to burn a DVD

I would also not use the fix-it guy again. He should have been able to remove the Trojan without mucking around with your software so much.

All of my computers stay up 24/7 and connected to fios, as long as you have all your protection layers up and running all the time there is no difference from daytime and night time at all. I never turn off my pc's unless there is weather or I am going out of town. I do turn off my monitor at night. I am also behind a router with firewall so I have hardware and software firewalls. As I said I have used zone alarm pro, an older version, for years now on all my windows computers. I do not like the more recent versions because they are more bloated. Using an older version is ok it does it's job just fine. My scans run at about 3am when I know I will not be on the computer and it will have all the resources to run them. I have them set on different days of course. I run regular scans at a minimum of once a week but usually more often. Any other tasks I have set up in windows task scheduler. On my linux computer I have klam AV and Guarddog firewall, not that you really need any of that on a linux machine but since I also have windows machines that I send to and from it is more to protect my windows boxes. I always have spywareblaster on all my windows computers and usually have spywareguard also both by javacool. I now mostly use superantispyware on them, I have not used AdAware in ages, on occasion use Spybot S&D. NEVER use registry cleaners on any of my computers.

Shaddy I would much prefer someone be overly cautious than to fall for some of the scams that so many of the rogue programs put out there. I personally do not use any type of registry cleaners, since I am not a registry expert I choose to simply not go there and I have not had any problems. I do know that CCcleaner is used by many many people and does have a good reputation. When in doubt about any program there is a very good website you can visit and see what they have to say about them, it is one of the highest rated sites by all the tech helper forums. Spyware Warrior Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products The short list that I put on all my windows computers are these (and of course there are others of my choice) SUPERAntiSpyware ZoneAlarm Pro but their free version is perfectly fine so you do not have to purchase the pro version. This is the free Free Download SpywareBlaster Firefox the firefox browser is not a security program but it is much safer than IE so it is the only browser I use. Plus one of the good free antivirus programs of you choice, like avast!, AVG or Avira AntiVir That is a good base protection.

AVG 7.5 has been popping up saying it would end on such and such a date but it did not they are trying to get you to switch to the new version. Now todays date of Aug31 was the one they had put on their forum as the end date but the people I had talked to at AVG said they would continue updates to 7.5 till December. I have not talked to anyone recently but I have not been notified that the Dec date was changed. So I guess we will see. If it keeps updating after today it will likely go till December. If you do have to go with AVG 8 please follow their direction here on their FAQ on how to get AVG 8 with out the extras. FAQ that link also provides you the direct link to the free version.

Gee yarnlover, it looks like you are getting advice on the Trojan and not getting your question answered.

I've always liked Nero for burning CDs/DVDs and two freeware versions are currently available. Version 9 supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7. There is also a freeware version 10 for Windows 7. I've linked the v9 download below.
