just4m3now, yes you can edit your own post before submitting it. Click on preview message (below post) and it gives you a box to use to edit. If you click on a place within your post and nothing happens, you need to scroll down to find the right one that you can edit with. :P))

I didn't have a clue as to what precipitated this thread. I looked around and finally found the original content on another thread. Perhaps this information would have been better served on the original thread as it makes it easier for members to be informed, learn and help.

I took the liberty of tagging the original thread.

I am involved in a few forums where you can edit your own posts even if you come back to it a year later.

There is an edit button next to the original post.
It only applies if you are the original poster.

If there were a filter for regional advice only I wouldn't use it. I enjoy hearing from people everywhere on a subject. No, of course, some of the information from CA or FL or TX isn't relevant to me but I still like knowing what their growing conditions and challenges, and their solutions to them, are in comparison to mine. It's how we learn new things about each other and roses. Many a warm climate grower has given me good advice on a variety of subjects. And during this past scorching hot drought of a summer I did use some of their tactics in keeping my roses hydrated. You never know when a piece of information you previously thought didn't pertain to you will come in handy! Knowledge of any kind is always a good thing! The wisdom to know what is usable for you and what isn't comes with time and experience. But if you never receive the knowledge in the first place you've already lost out. To all my warm climate rose friends, please feel free to give me your advice, help and answers on any of my posts! And I hope that you don't mind my sharing my cold climate experiences on yours. If so, my apologies in advance.

Oh I like that. Too many times I'm interrupted when composing a post, I might start it but not actually post it until hours later. I'll cut and paste to reorder my thoughts and if I'm in a rush I'll post. Then read it later and roll my eyes when I see a paragraph repeated or a silly spelling error. I just had one on thermostatic versus pressure-balanced valves. It took 5 minutes to type, but those 5 minutes were spread over 90 minutes. When I proof-read? Oh the horror! Thanks for the editing upgrade.

The empty white space was caused by posts that had html tags in the preview window. If you don't see those tags, you won't get the white space. Ok. "While that may be an option on other forums, I think we want to be as transparent as possible. Even if a post was only edited for a typo or clarification, it just seems like the right thing to do." I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, on the Exchange Forums I would have liked for there to be no edit feature, since an occasionally shifty trader could edit their posts. Like offering cuttings, versus rooted cuttings, or offering this instead of that, etc. I know many wanted to be able to edit trade posts, but if they wanted to change what they had to offer, or what they were looking for, they could just update their trade lists...but oh well. Not my problem, since I am no longer actively trading on the Exchanges at this time. I know you said, "There is always a log kept of the original post. " but I doubt if anyone would want to go to the time and trouble to find out what an 'original' post said, unless they were out mega bucks and plants, iykwim. Sue

The editing feature has benefits, however in some situations it may make other member's follow up comments meaningless. That's why other forums allow a limited time for editing your own post, 30 minutes or one hour. dcarch

You cannot only edit your post but, you can even choose to delete it altogether if you wish.

For some .. That would eliminate some future, unforeseen headaches. 8)

I think one of you is referring to creation and preview while the other is is speaking of posted. Two different phases at this forum.

You can do anything you like in the creation and preview phase, but at this forum once it is posted it is posted as is. There is no emending. To have a thread removed a request has to b e made to the webmaster.
