toto toilet seat

Hi yall -- has anyone an opinion about their toto toilet seats? I have decided to buy two skirted drakes (the name escapes me - venti or something?) and need to decide whether to buy their toilet seats as well. One has steeply angled sides which is rather startling. A second is a little better, but still not particularly alluring. Is there any reason not to stick just any-old toilet seat on a toto? (For example, aberrant specs that require their seats alone) Is there a particular seat or manufacturer that you love and recommend?

don't know but will watch for replies. my new place has 2 toto toilets and I'd like to change out the seats to the soft shut ones.

I can't be of any help other than to say we did just recently installed a drake and an Aquia III with the Toto soft close seats...love the soft close seats...

jkom51: " Note the Toto soft-close seat has been redesigned ..." Which of the many Toto soft-close seats is "the" Toto soft-close seat that has been redesigned? SS113? SS114? SS154? SS164? SS204? SS214? SS224? Or one of the other Toto soft-close seat models? They all differ one from another. I have the Drake - elongated. The salesperson said the Toto toilet seat is quite uncomfortable and recommended a brand called "Church" (slow-close). It is fine but sometimes buckles when I seat on the closed seat. I bought a cheap ($18) soft close seat at Home Depot for my basement bath -- it is fine also but again I would never stand on it!

We have a Toto Aquia III with the soft close seat that comes with it (the one that's flat on top when shut, not the one that slopes forward.) I find it very comfortable (though it felt odd at first) and the soft-close is great. We're installing a Carolina next month and have ordered the regular soft-close seat (that slopes forward) for it, but can't comment on that one yet. One thing: I've always had wood toilet seats and at first I thought these plastic ones seemed cheap... but now I feel like the comfortable design and soft-close MORE than make up for that :)

ditto ditto ditto. We put in lots of dif't Totos (sorry -- I cannot remember the names), okay, I think three dif't styles, throughout the house and got the soft close seats for all but one (mine, which is the washlet which I L-O-V-E -- never thought I would heart a toilet seat but so it goes!). We got the regular, lowest-price Toto seat (soft-close) and we like them. They're comfy and seriously, that soft-close is a wonderful feature.

Hey Aliris. Nice to see you over here. I didn't realize you were doing bathrooms too. I'm planning a Toto for my new master bath and was just looking at threads to figure out a seat. Which one did you end up with?

I just installed a Toto Soiree and I don't need the Soft Close seat it came with because I bought a washlet which comes with its own Soft Close seat. I was going to sell it on ebay but would be happy to sell it directly to you if you are interested. Box is unopened.

aliris19, we installed a Toto Vespin II in January, and chose the specific seat, Toto SS214 (suffix -01: cotton white), for it, instead of the other versions (SS114, SS154, etc.) of Toto soft-close seats. Among the Toto soft-close seat models, the SS214 has the fewest inaccessible niches and corners and is the easiest to clean and to clean the adjacent toilet surfaces around, especially if you have largish hands or fat fingers.

All Toto seats fit all Toto and Inax toilets, and all Inax seats fit all Toto and Inax toilets. (Inax is the other major Japanese toilet manufacturer.) Later this year, we will replace the Toto SS214 with an Inax Clessence advanced toilet seat, not because of any deficiency in the Toto seat, but because we have wanted an advanced toilet seat for years and years and years.

Thanks all! We ended up getting the soft close (it was actually free thanks to the intercession of my local plumbing store maven Jackie. I highly recommend her to anyone in LA if anyone's interested). I have to say that to me, the soft close doesn't really matter much; the lid gets left up most of the time anyway. In truth I find it a little annoying waiting for it to close down when necessary, but not really a big deal. What I do note, however, is a complete "YUP" to stacey's point. We also have always had wooden toilet seats. I think my parents got one at some point in my youth and I thought it the height of sophistication, to tell the truth. It's a weird teensy thing I felt it hard to let go of from deep inside.

But like Stacey, I've come to really like the toto seats. I was worried about the steep angle but it is actually quite, um - how to put this delicately? - it's very functional. And it's not obtrusive as a negative. It's an impressive piece of subtle but deep engineering!

Whatever does this mean about the difference between our cultures? I couldn't presume to guess but I'm sure others have...

Hi Breezy. I did one bathroom that *finally* just got finished, um, almost: still need two lights. And I am thrilled with it. I have one to go. Guess I did another one too that I also like, but it's not done yet either. But the decisions in that one are not oppressive. The utterly undone one, though ... oy.
