kenmore elite range: bridge burner and glass top

Anyone have the Kenmore Elite slide-in dual fuel range (maybe the gas range is the same)? I'm wondering about the bridge burner. Just to clarify, it's the oval ring that takes the place of two burners? My understanding is that it's usable as 2 separate burners, or one long one, correct? The total BTU rating on that burner is 27,000: Does it break down to roughly the same on each burner? Is it convenient to use? If you just use one part, is the gas distributed evenly under the pot? What is its purpose, actually? Just for use under a griddle? Otherwise is it as useful as two round burners?

also, how is the glass top? it doesn't seem recessed, so what happens if there's a boilover (a common occurrence here!)

thank you!!
