Gif Question

I have saved several animated gifs. However, when I click on them, they are not animated. I thought all one had to do was save as a gif to get the animation.

Can you tell me what I may do to save these gifs so that the animation works.

The "pictures" program that came with Windows 7.

You can skim coat the back side of the drywall (not recommended) or glue & screw a second layer on the closet side or construct a very thin wall within the door frame drywall each side of a 3/4 board so it clears the door when it is closed or fill the closet portion with 3/4 wood finished to match the door frame and trimmed at the stair bottom. maybe take out the spaces and make it one contigious string because if you use line breakes or carriage returns here when gardenweb server parses the form data it adds in breaks and suddenly you have added breaks ontop of carriage returns and anyhow view source here and maybe you will see your errors... I changed cf/lf to wrap and removed extra blank spaces = the background graphics certaily wont work when you link them directly off of someones online site that doesnt allow direct linking.

I imagine you can embed an animated gif the same as you would any image. Upload it to one of the many image hosting sites and use the HTML code they provide. Of course you can always grab the direct link and use it in a simple template such as this: <img src="URLofTheImage"> Most image hosting sites allow direct(hot) linking, but at least one I can think of does not. Personally, I would, and do, avoid such hosts. As an example, there's a rotating smiley located at: http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/chuggerguy/stylish/rotatingSmiley_zpsf88451d6.gif To post it here, I could either grab the HTML embed code they provide or plug that URL(address) into the template above, like this: <img src="http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/chuggerguy/stylish/rotatingSmiley_zpsf88451d6.gif"> Which once posted here becomes: BTW, an actual direct link to an image almost always starts with http/s, ends with an image extension such as gif, png, jpg, jpeg, etc. and does not include a question mark in between. The presence of a question mark usually(always?) indicates what you have is not the direct URL of the image but instead, of a page that displays the image, and that won't work.

Hello walnutcreek,

Right click on the GIF, choose select "Open With" now choose Internet explorer. Just want to see if it works there for you. Let us know.

Windows Photo Viewer in Win 7 as far as I know does not support animation.

This program does support GIF'S and animation, see link.

If you do chose to install Irfanview, which many of us here like to recommend, be sure to install the plug-in. Also, when configuring during install I personally recommend you configure with all picture formats, but no audio formats. This can be changed at any time, collectively or individually.

Zep, the gif did work when opened with IE.

Dammccoy and Zep, many, many years ago I had Irfanview installed on a computer. Did not even know it was still offered. I will download it and the add ons.

Hi.
I open Gif files with Windows Media player with no problem.
I have turn repeat on,so can watch a file as long,as I want.Have many nice cards and like to watch them and send them.Have you tried to open them this way"

Well, I feel dumb. Windows Media Player does not even show my gifs. Why is that?

You need to use an image viewer, not windows media player.

"WMP by itself can not open image files but, when WMP does
not know how to open a file, it relies on DirectShow and it
so happens that a system library called DES (which is used
for video editing by e.g. WindowsMovieMaker) contains a
DirectShow source filter that can open image files in
several common formats (BMP, DIB, GIF, JPEG, TGA) and make
them appear as videos to DirectShow and hence to WMP. "
