viewing vista wallpaper

Is there a trick to viewing the actual wallpaper pictures with vista instead of the one standard picture/icon. I can identify the photo if I go to view, then list, but no actual thumbnail picture. Also the only way I can find to center is to go through ifran/image and set the wall paper there. I am using firefox and Vista. Any suggestions?

Control Panel, Appearance, Background then at the bottom there are 3 choices for how you want it positioned. I always use my own photos for wallpaper so just browse my photos till I find one I want to use, however at the top of the screen there is a Browse button and under that a drop down menu, if you choose Windows Wallpaper it gives you a whole list with thumbnail pictures.

Unlike a2gemini, I do like wallpaper. On the other hand I agree that a simple paint would be better in this situation. I can't see your patch job well enough to say for sure, but I think a good sanding would make the surface ready for paint. You took down a mosaic backsplash that was there? If it's really uneven, maybe you need a skim coat all over and then a good sanding. It's not too difficult as a DIY. What color is the rest of the room? You could continue that color or you could use a different "kitchen" color. I could see a minty or sagey green or even a periwinkle.

I agree....stripping wallpaper from plaster is a whole different animal than if it were on drywall. Plaster is like rock, really hard to damage. The entire reason everyone thinks that removing wallpaper is such a nightmare is because we started hanging it on top of drywall as if it were plaster. Don't forget that even though the wallpaper may seem stuck to you and your professional painter, adding the weight of mud and paint may help it come loose and/or bubble everywhere over time. Painting over wallpaper should really only be done as a last resort.

These shades look very nice - I wonder how long they will last, especially in a hit or humid climate. The best clear packing tape 3M #3750, my opinion, does not stand up to sun - gets brittle. Her directions could be applied to a nice fabric - I made 2 for Patio doors about 7 years ago out of fabric and stuffed the folds slightly w/ tissue paper. I think her instructions are very good, and I just might give them a try- Thanks for the link!

About calculating wallpaper roll and adhesive

I usually calculate by the number of drops of paper I need. So if the wall is 14 feet wide and the paper is 20.5", I need 9 drops of paper. (14x12=168 inches wide, divided by 20.6= 8.1 drops) Figure 9' per drop (more if there is a repeat), times 9 drops, I'll need 81 linear feet to cover that wall. At 33 linear feet per roll, I'll need 2 1/2 rolls for that wall. Be very careful about single rolls, which is what they charge by, and double rolls, which is the minimum they will sell you. Make sure you're calculating based on the actual size of the roll...not the single/double business.

have you set up how you want to view contents in that folder? should be able to set it as thumbnail, slideshow, etc. Try under View when you open the folder. (not view on the browser)

I will do that the next time I use the laptop. I am getting it set up for "cruising". I get a little bored between ports so playing games and watching movies will help. It had better help my next cruise is 25 days, so will get a lot bored before I get home. LOL

um I could come with you to help you keep your computer working fine, do you have a large steamer trunk I could fit in?
Have always wanted to do a cruise and never have. Sure sounds like fun.

Very funny raven, I would like to have you sitting at this computer right NOW! For the first time I am totally fed up with a computer and the problem is Vista. It is functioning ok, but just can't do the things I want to do. The only way I can view them as thumbnail is "browse with Irfanview". My laptop is widescreen and Irfan has an option to "fit to size of screen" which works. Then when I choose to set as background it asks center, tile or stretch which I haven't found when I go directly to the folder. I'm calling it a night before I through this laptop through the window. LOL
