Your top choices?

Let's pretend money isn't an issue. I researched the heck out of appliances two years ago before completing my small Brooklyn kitchen. I'm in the suburbs now and about to embark on a kitchen extension, so I have no (real) size constraints. We went out to Karl's appliance showroom in Fairfield NJ today and the selection was dizzying. The architect is asking us to come up with a list of appliances (or at least to give her the sizes) so they can start configuring the space.

I'd love your input since all of y'all were so helpful two years ago. Here's my list of the sizes of appliances I'm pretty sure we'll go with. But there are oh so many to choose from I really don't know where to begin. So assuming money isn't a factor (of course it is but this is sort of a dream list) what would you buy?

36" 6 burner dual fuel range (decided I do not need a griddle or grill in addition to the six burners)

48" side by side counter depth fridge/freezer

30" wall oven

Built in microwave

Range hood

dishwasher (pretty much decided against dish drawer

beverage fridge (we do not have an attached garage so extra fridge in the garage is out of the question)

I have a couple of top contenders but I'd like to see what you all have to say.

$$$$is always an issue. But, on the other hand there is always give & take. I was torn between the 36" Termadore and tahe 36" Wolf. After many hours of stress, this garden web, several friends, and even DH convinced me the Wolf was the way to go.
$$$ No issue, Sub Zero, or Thermadore built in.
Give & Take I did the Jenn-air SS-FD reg depth and recessed the wall.
Wall oven????
Range Hood - Vent-a-hood, NPH-18/36 Less $$ then wolf, and less noise.

D/w we did Bosch full intergrated with panel.
micro-GE JEM21 sm space.
if $$$$ no object & size ??? microwave is a microwave, they are all pretty much disposible.

Beverage Fridge: GE Monogram (this is a cooler not an actual fridge I believe -- you should check carefully). Alternately, Perlick if you want undercounter.

I'm no rose expert, but I'm in hot, sunny Australia and a LOT of my neighbours grow Crepuscule. Our summer temps usually hover between 80 and 95 degrees F, but we do often have several weeks of 110 degrees. Winter temps between 50 and 60 ish. Crepuscule does well here in both full sun and part shade. It seems to prefer sun though, where it always has some blooms throughout the summer months, but it has two main flushes in Spring and Autumn which would stop traffic. My neighbour has a large hedge of Crepuscule and it's pretty dangerous driving past his place in spring and autumn :) So I think it should do fine in a hot climate.

Hi Susan! Well, I am afraid what I said might be a little misleading, as I have a couple of them. I have gotten about ten packets of different species of Corydalis over the past few months in trades. Very excited to expand my few into a collection! So in the next year or so (if they all germinate, cross my fingers) I should be able to give a good comparison of them. I have done a good deal of reading about Corydalis though (much more interesting than some books I have had the misfortune to pick up recently, lol). There are hundreds of species, so this is something I can just keep on collecting for awhile. Most Corydalis are spring ephemerals, which go dormant or partially dormant after they bloom. One that has a longer (if not the longest) bloom time is C. lutea. It is covered in bright yellow flowers from spring until frost (if you snip back spent flower heads). I have had mine for several years and just adore it. It is wonderfully hardy and tough. I even planted a seedling in a crack by the sidewalk and it has survived, even when the rain floods the area and freezes. Almost all blue colored Corydalis are known to be less than vigorous growers. The only exception that I know of (only read this, not sure for certain yet as I have only just gotten seed of it) is C. linstowiana. I think Arrowhead sells the C. linstowiana under the name 'Du Fu Temple'. Another Corydalis that is generally considered a vigorous grower is C. solida. It is a very hardy alpine plant native to Scandinavia and parts of the Balkans. The color ranges from pale purples, pinks, to a few near red cultivars like 'George Baker'. The only downside to Corydalis is that most reseed extremely well. Some gardeners find it to be a problem. I don't since it is so easy to pluck out any unwanted ones. I think the dry/less than perfect soil over here also keeps it from reseeding as much as it could. So richer soils would incourage more germination I imagine. Sorry I could not give you a real review of the performance of them, since I don't grow many. Hopefully I can give more info (and seeds!) when my plants grow up. karyn1, thanks for the photos!! My grow room is WAY messier than yours, so much so that I have yet to take ANY photos of it. Every year I say I'm going to straighten it up, but then more plants sneak in there. I don't mind having them in the house too much, although I would much prefer the basement or garage with a cement floor and no carpeting and no way for drips to sneak through and spot the kitchen ceiling! Not to mention that flight of stairs to drag the plants up and down... dgs9r, as far as garage vs. basement, you must keep your tropicals above freezing all the time. Your garage may or may not meet this, depending on where it's sited, how well it's insulated, etc. Cool and dim is best for dormant tropicals. I've found they do better that way - fewer bugs, especially fewer spider mites - than warm and dim or even warm and moderate light. I keep some actively growing in a warm room with lots of grow lights, but even then they get lanky because I just can't afford enough lights for all of them. Some tropicals can go totally dormant over the winter, some semi-dormant, some need to stay active. Do a search for "overwintering tropicals" to find some lists. Not all lists will agree, however. (I once started a very opinionated debate among tropical hibiscus experts on whether hibiscus could be stored dormant or not. Some people have done it, others say it's simply impossible or a very bad idea.) I've just started the cool, dim room approach myself. So far it has worked well for a bougainvilla, an upright elephant ear and a lotus. I store my canna rhizomes in a dark box in a cool place. If I can steal more basement space from my husband next year, I'd like to try more types. It is just so much easier to put the pots in the basement and check the water every few weeks than it is to keep them actively growing and bug free all winter. (Black Runner elephant ears and water hyacinths will succumb to mites in my warm grow room in a matter of weeks.)

If you can deal with the small freezer, limited availability, and potential service availability, check out Leibherr. The freezer was just too small for me, but I was very intrigued by the BioFresh feature -- keeps fresh food that can tolerate 33 degrees at exactly that temp for long shelf life (pretty much everything except cucumbers and citrus, as I understand it). I got Thermador because it has a totally integrated look and I could get separate units (so I could hinge both on the same side).

Having cooked on the Bluestar 22K BTU burners now, I love it, but it doesn't have the fit-and-finish of the other brands mentioned.

I redid my kitchen in 2005 here is what I put in..

Wolf 6 burner Gas Rangetop
Wolf Double Ovens electric
2 Sub Zero 700 TCI one with ice one without
1 F&P Dish Drawer
Miele Dishwasher

I would not change a thing, the 2 fridges are great no need for that gargage fridge, I do have a Sears upright freezer in the laundry room

I had been leaning heavily toward the Wolf 36" 6 burner dual fuel and it seems you all agree. Also leaning towards the SZ 48" with ice dispenser. Wall ovens - I'm going to research Miele a bit more, but Wolf and Thermador are the contenders there. Dishwasher - we had a KA Architects Series in our last house and loved it. My only hesitation is that the people who bought the house from us told us it up and died one day and it wasn't even a year old. We have a Bosch in this house and it cleans fine but I can't stand loading it. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be hanging out here a lot in the coming months...

Since I'm older, retired and living in my last and forever home, I did take the approach that $$$$ were not a consideration and I did equip the kitchen with the best of everything....to my tastes. 2+ years later, I still love using every one of these appliances, and still marvel at how well they perform and how good they look.

Wolf DF range
Wolf hood, exhaust fan, etc.
SZ 650 fridge -- or, is the number SZ630. I no longer remember that detail :)
F&P dishdrawers, which I'm thankful for every time I use them. I love these....This is the second house in which I've had them...I like them that much.
