Update on Trial

Hello all and thank you for all the support, prayers, good wishes and advice that you sent my way over the past 9 months. I have told Stephen and Charles about my forum pals and even printed out some of the threads and honestly it brought a tear to Stephens eyes that folks he doesn't even know would rally around his cause.

He wanted me to thank you too.

The trail was all over in one day.

The DD (drunk driver) was sentanced to no less than 2 years in the Bucks County corrections and ordered to pay not only all the court costs but he was also ordered to pay for the repair of Charles teeth (The insurance will not cover the teeth stating it was cosmetic).

As I said I was not there because I had to work but the judge asked if anyone wanted to speak. My brother took the stand and recounted the phone call his wife recieved the night of the crash. How she was told her husband was in a serious accident and taken to a hospital. A hospital downtown. MY sil called her daughter because she was too upset to drive and it was 2 am Easter Sunday Morning.

Her daughter said of course she would drive and asked how Charles was getting home from work-they initially had no idea Charles was also in the car.

They called the restaurant only to realize the horror that Charles had gone home with Stephen. They had left together.

He told the judge that no one should ever have to get a phone call like that.

He also spoke about how he felt the family or at least someone representing the family should have reached out to acknowledge the accident and offer an apology.

The DD also took the stand and with no emotion talked of how alcohol has now ruined his life...but at no time did he apologize for his actions.

As you all know Stephen is part owner of a very successful restaurant, catering and night club venue and as such they have their own legal team so they know a little something about all things having to do with liability so while the DD was on the stand a rep from the legal team asked the judge if she wouldn't mind asking where the DD was drinking that night. The judge agreed and asked the DD and he DID release the info!!!

This paves the way for Stephen to file civil charges.

My SIl who was there said the DD was cold as ice and almost combative. She said he walking into the court room with an attitude and a swager. But after the ruling and he was taken out in cuffs he crumbled like a little boy. Everyone was overcome with emotion...it was very hard to witness.

I am so glad its over...I think now the guys can truely heal.

I will continue to post updates.

PEACE!

Susie
