Good sink size for longer sink in master

Due to space constraints, we decided against a double vanity for our master bath.

We have about 55-60" to work with, and are thinking that a single sink (with single or double faucet) would be our best bet.

Any thoughts out there on what size of sink is best for this - keeping in mind that we don't want a vessel sink that takes up all of the room and leaves no counterspace.

Correction I meant to say "trough" sink (not vessel sink) - either way, we are not looking for a sink that takes up all of the counterspace....

ikea has countertops with sink integrated, that take up the whole counter space.

We just had four of the Toto undermount sinks with interior dimensions of 17" x 14" installed in our new build this weekend. The plumbing hasn't been completed, so they haven't been used, but they are a nice size. We put them in the kids bathrooms and two in the master bath. As for the protrusion of the faucets, that I can't answer. The faucet has to sit back behind the sink flange, and the counter fabricators will leave plenty of room to make sure the faucet plumbing to also clear the flange. I was worried about the same thing. Today, I stuck the faucet in the drilled holes and pretended to wash my face. It seemed to be fine. I hope this helps!

[see my 2010 posting above] Update on my large second sink. I am very pleased that we chose this sink size. We have set up an assembly line style processing area--sufficient plunk space left of the sink to heap up dead pheasants, tomatoes, lettuces, or spuds; the sink for scrubbing/washing; a plunk space for setting out washed items, often using a little towel to absorb the water; the chopping surface in the corner, with countertop behind so I can work between the pull-out chopping board and the countertop (with pull-out trash bin just to the side), and to the right of the corner is work space and then the range. Blanching veg is wonderful using this system, and I can fit large am'ts of blanched veg into the sink when I'm cooling it down also. DH is a hunter and he often moves his pheasants down the assembly line, from washing and plucking, to cutting up, to the frying pan. Large trays, cookie sheets, dehydrator trays, etc. fit into the large sink better than into my dishwashing sink so of course I use it for that. I am a flower arranger and it's great to be able to work with flowers, flower pots, etc. in the large sink. My only error: I chose the white-coated grid for the bottom of the sink but should have chosen the steel one. Rough handling can abrade the white coating. Is 17x21 a good size for a prep sink? it would be 8" deep.

My second sink is 12x17x8, interior, in a 22" deep counter. (We built the cabinet a few inches shallower than normal to match another feature in the room.) I think 14x18.5 will be fine.

That size sounds good. I have seen them undersized to take advantage of counter space and it's not a good look. The Ladena that ck_squared has is a very popular sink in Houzz photos. It gives you a rectangular sink but with a sloped bottom so that water and toothpaste goes down the drain easily.

I am not sure that you have enough room for a sink with two faucets, at least if you intend to have two people use the sink at the same time, because a person's body width takes up enough space to make it impractical unless you have a sink that spans most of the countertop. Trying standing side by side with someone else and see how much elbow room you need. THen figure out the size of the sink you need. I think you will determine that you need most of the width of the vanity.

ikea makes them to fit that size, with two faucets and two sinks. So one sink can be used to soak a fine fabric while the other sink is still available for general use.

a kitchen faucet with pulldown hose can be practical in a bathroom too.

Our vanity will be 58" long and we will be using one Kohler Ladena sink. There is a 21" x 14" version and also an 18 " x 12" version We may go for the larger one - not sure at this point.

nycbluedevil - yes i think you are right, which is why we have been leaning towards a single (longer) sink.

hello8 - will you be offsetting it or centering the sink? Just curious...
