If you mean the Toolbar (on top) or the Taskbar (on bottom) did you lock it? Regardless, right click on a vacant area of the bar and click on "Lock the....".

I did lock over and over, nothing I do keeps it in place. Is there a way I could get the icons back on my desktop.

Now I am confused - not unusual though lol. Are you saying you do not have the word "Desktop" sans quotes along with 2 small greater than chevrons showing on the taskbar to the left of the clock at startup?

These should be showing all the time and to access the desktop icons you click on the 2 chevrons causing a pop up menu to appear with the icons on.

To return your icons to the desktop there is a small blue icon in the Quicklaunch menu, click that to restore the desktop

Yes I have it right where it is suppose to be. When I turn the computer on in the morning it is gone and I have to repeat the routine to get it to show up again. I will work on getting them back on my desktop. Thanks

Let's try this:

Right-click on the Start button>click on Properties>select the Taskbar tab>is the Auto Hide option clear or checked? If checked, uncheck it>Apply>OK.

Yes I have, I did it just last night. I had a problem before this and I believe others did to. It may be what is keeping me from reversing this problem. When I put my quick launch shortcuts in an order that I want them some of them move when I reboot. I think this may be linked to that problem. I chatted with a support tech and they gave me a patch to download and it did not work. It got rid of everything including the things in the quick launch. I put them all back, but still no desktop shortcuts. I may have to do a reformat, but not sure I can get all of my wireless stuff back in working condition.

I posted in another help forum and got my answer, thanks to all who tried.

Reporting an item fixed is good, reporting how it was fixed is always great as others can learn from the experience.

Sorry, I was tired last night and was ready for some down time and I watched "The Continuum" (stargate).

I chatted with a MS tech on their support line, she sent me a patch, that I didn't think worked, but it did. I was really shocked because everything was gone even my quick launch icons. All I had to do then was turn it back on and click on arrange icons by, then show desktop icons. thanks again for the suggestions and patience.
