Ext HD

Since reformatting my laptop certain music and photo editing programmes are not fully functional when trying to edit contents of Ext HD....I get error reports.
The programmes do function with files added to the HD
post reformat.
What did I muck up?...thank you

All programmes are up to date.

The problem as you're describing it isn't completely clear to me. Is it something wrong with the programs, or something wrong with the data (photo and music) files? Have you tried to open the music and photo files with other programs?

When a program isn't running properly, the first thing to do is to uninstall it, delete all the accompanying files in the program and app data folders, and then re-install it. Have you tried that?

There is nothing wrong with the programmes...MP3Gain for example works well with all tunes on HD that were added after reformat and tunes on laptop....it's the tunes on the HD that were there before reformat that are not accepted by the editing programmes..nothing wrong with any data. I can play tunes and view pictures...
MP3Gain gives me an error in processing message and photo editing will not save.
If I Drag and Drop a tune from the Ext HD onto desktop MP3Gain works but not directly from the HD.
Hope that clarifies.
Just to be sure I have re installed all programmes.

The NEW warranties are sold at HD and Lowes. NEW is part of Natioal Ram Electronics extended warranty services. NEW contracts with local repair shops to do the acual repairs. The quality of the repair serivce is as good or bad as the local shop can provide. Most of the time the service is pretty good, and if you have a problem you have some recorse thrue NEW. So if you want at home service, and somthing in addition to the MFGs warranty then the NEW extended warranty may be the right choice for you.

Hi JG - we're getting ready to paint our house this spring too, and I've been pretty much paralyzed by color choices. IÂve made color mistakes before, and the exterior of my house is a pretty big deal. We have a gray-brown roof too, ours is steel (newly installed last fall). ItÂs supposed to be charcoal gray Â and the little piece IÂve been carrying around in my purse does look gray Â but on my house, I think it looks brown. Hubby says itÂs because the house is currently painted a (unflattering) brownish color, my eye is picking that up when I look at the roof. IÂm starting to think IÂm colorblind or crazy. Anyway, IÂm finally ready to buy my first sample color. ItÂs BM Revere Pewter HC-172. WeÂre thinking of a blue for the trim. ThatÂs hubbyÂs pick, and IÂd be okay with it. You house is really sweet, and I think could carry any of those colors. I really like the green. Louisburg Green is a very nice color. My boss painted her bedroom this color and raves about it. IÂve actually got the color chip right here in front of me Â green is an option weÂre considering too. Like you, weÂre already surrounded by lots of trees and other greenery, so I was afraid a green house would get "lost". Good luck with your quest - I hope youÂll show "after" photos!

txgal, In my bedroom I currently have the 2" wood blinds on all windows and on the french doors to the porch - they look and work great, except that if you will be opening & closing the doors frequently, the little plastic hold downs can break (then the blinds just flop everywhere each time you open the door). It was a $3 fix, but something to think about, especially if you have kids! The windows have panel curtains as well as the blinds, and the door has blinds only. In a former house, we did not have the blinds on the doors - just some panels on either side of the door, mounted on a rod that extended across the whole top of the double doors. That said, I don't think you necessarily have to put anything on the doors...if you don't mind the lack of privacy.

"I am assuming I would want to erase "c" ?" You'd want to wipe the entire drive that the partition "C:" resides on. Does DiskScrubber allow you to burn a CD that you boot to? If so, it should allow to to see, select, and wipe the entire drive. This video is for Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN), not DiskScrubber, but the method should be similar... The articles I linked to above state one overwrite is sufficient. The guy in the video chooses seven. Myself, I'd probably go with one, or possibly as a compromise, two or three. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then again, I doubt I'll ever have a hard drive I can't use. Backups, etc.

Maybe the problem is that drag and drop has decided it doesn't like a program or two. For mp3gain, instead of doing drag and drop, try clicking on File, Add Files, and then go through the Windows Explorer-like screen to add the files you want from your external drive. Does that work?

Or, there are other free programs that do the Replay Gain analysis for volume leveling. Foobar and Winamp come to mind, there are many others. In addition, these two have many other handy features.

The programmes work fine.
I decided to delete and reload the tunes and pics onto
my HD's and all works well now.
