Windows 8 End User Training Brochure

For those new to Windows 8 the Windows 8 End User Training Brochure might well be worth a look at. Plenty of screenshots and examples. It is a PDF file so you will need a PDF reader which I am sure you all have installed anyway.

Our local paper said the update on W 8 would be released Oct 17 and it would be free for anyone with W 8. I read in here it would be in Oct but don't remember seeing a specific day. Maybe this will help the users who don't like it.

I am really curious about the new OS when it comes out, W 9 I guess it will be called. I am wondering if they go back to the older style.

I have that on my laptop. It's awful. It was written for a phone. You are supposed to swipe it to naviagate, but don't have a touch screen. It was a bad idea all around. Only Microsoft, AT&T or the government could prosper with such poor products and service. It's so bad that Toshiba offered to walk me through installing Windows 7 and provide all the drivers (I had to buy Windows 7). One of the guys who works for me installed a start menu, which really helped. I did not change to Windows 7. I also rarely use that computer. bk

After reading these messages my cheapo gene kicked in. $14.95 now $200 later. So I bought it. I keep things backed up pretty good so I was ready to do a clean install. I burned the iso to disk, inserted it and got to the point of entering the product key. I didn't work so I backed up and entered it again same result. I opened the email thanking me for ordering it and copied it and pasted it in the installer. Still didn't work so I called MS support. They couldn't help but escalated my call to the next level. But they had closed for the day and I have to call back tomorrow.

A few years back, I did quite a lot of testing on home interior walls using B&M, P&L and F&B colors. Also, we've used SW in my husband's office and on exteriors, and Glidden many years ago. The end result is that I am a total F&B fan, although, I admit I'll certainly use another brand if I can't find the color I'm looking for in the F&B palette (also, I'd love to try DKC, Fine Paints of Europe, and I've heard nothing but good things about the milk paints). During my home-test, there were some P&L colors that definitely went on like silken "pudding;" however, comparatively speaking, I would not describe F&B paint as "pudding" (that could have been due to the specific colors I was using). In one bedroom, I used a non-F&B primer over painfully bright medium-blue walls and stark-white trim. Then, I painted walls and trim in two different finishes of F&B Clunch. I'm pretty sure I applied two coats, if not, it was just one (this was a rental house). Regardless, the results were spectacular. Clunch totally transformed the space and the room "glowed." The color looked good enough to eat, and I never tired of it. Also, when held side-by-side, all the chips from F&B matched the colors I had on-hand (and I worked with at least two dozen colors); however, like any paint, once on the walls they often surprised me. I've been lucky to attend some show houses where F&B and BM were on the walls; each time I go, it helps me learn the color nuances, hone in on my preferences, and better "read" the chip samples. Finally, some paint manufacturers are known to excel at producing certain colors better than other manufacturers. That, combined with the fact that we all perceive colors differently, may make it well worth your while to investigate paints from various manufacturers in just your specific palette.

I don't think she was considering upgrading her current pc to a newer version of windows but updating by getting a new pc with a newer OS. I would not recommend trying to put one of the newer versions of windows on a very old pc it would have to be checked for compatibility before hand and likely would have a lot of things that would need to be changed and updated if it would work at all. Some other articles and videos that help explain and give you a look at what it is all about. Windows 8: 8 Things You Need to Know Is Windows 8 for you? #8. I think the touch screen options are great, I am so used to them on my phone and tablet when I get back on my desktop I keep trying to pinch my monitor LOL! It does not like that. My thought is don't be afraid of the new technology it gives us a chance to work out those brain cells. But again don't let someone else tell you what you need!

I have been looking at some of the movies people have posted in youtube but, ehhh, they are better than microsoft's but not well organized and can frustrating when they say or ask you to try something... and a part of the instructions covers something you cannot do yet.

I am waiting for one that will show me how to control the volume, how to "x" out of a window or show me what Windows Explorer/Games/etc was replaced by. Kind of cheap of Microsoft to not include good ole solitaire anymore...

I am still powering off the PC when I have too much stuff open and cannot close them! LOL! Oh well. You do what you have to do, right?

Thanks for the new link, owbist. Will check it out tomorrow.

Get the games on Windows 8. How-To Geek shows you how to copy the games folder from Windows 7 to Windows 8. If you nolonger have a Win 7 machine find a friend :~)

Closing windows. When more than one window is open simply right click on the taskbar icon of the one you wish to close then click to close the program.

If you have a window behind the Start window go to the top left corner and click as it appears.
