Gas cooktops 36' Wolf vs Dacor

I can't decide between the Wolf or the Dacor.

I like Wolf's controls better, but am wondering if its

worth the extra money. Does it simmer better.

How do Dacor knobs stand up, are the prone to cracking, as they are plastic.

Which is easier to clean?

Help I have to decide by tomorrow, as the granite is being cut

I am pretty sure that wolf ranges don't have sealed burners. That makes cleaning a lot harder if liquids and grease spill over pots and pans. My neighbor has a wolf and is getting a Thermador because he continually has to clean the entire range(burners and drip tray) due to this. Just something to consider!

I've had a Dacor gas cooktop for 2 years - it's the Epicure model. We haven't had any problems, the knobs are fine. It does have sealed burners. Unfortunately since I don't have a Wolf I can't offer a comparison.

In February we were making a decision about the AG ranges and were looking at American, Bluestar and Wolf. We did tons of research and looked and looked. At that time I was also thinking I wanted a color range rather than stainless, so that narrowed it down to Bluestar and American. We decided the American was a better value than the Bluestar and were ready to order until we did a final measurement and discovered that the extra depth of the Performer would not work in our particular configuration because a drawer on an adjacent wall wouldn't open. So, much as we would have liked it, that eliminated that possibility. Then, we found an AG Wolf floor model on clearance (one of the old models with the open burner) and bought that. I like it, but personally I wouldn't want the burners on the new model Wolf. And, there have been a couple times (maybe only 3 or 4) when I thought to myself I would have liked to have one of the more powerful burners from the Performer. In your shoes, I'd save the money and get the Performer. This doesn't mean I don't like the Wolf; it just means that I don't think it is worth the extra money now, especially considering the fact it has sealed burners.

I have recently installed a Dacor ER36D range and have had serious problems with the cooktop. The burners worked initially ( 2 days ), but after running a self-clean on the oven, the burners would not work. It has been almost a month and Dacor, the service company and the retailer where I purchased has been unable to resolve the issue. I am at the point where I am going to have to call the credit card company used for payment and demand satisfaction. I tried asking for a new unit to no avail thus far. The oven is electric and still functions and I realize that a self clean should have nothing to do with cooktop function. They tried replacing the regulator ( had to pull the range completely out to get to the back ). I just want to be able to cook my family a nice breakfast on Sunday mornings and have been unable to do so since we started our kitchen remodel in May. I hope Dacor steps up tomorrow ( Monday ) with a quick resolution. 3 Days of work missed to try to get this resolved so far. So much for investing in a quality piece of equipment.

There is a thread already on the Dacor. I doubt you'll notice the 3k BTU difference in real world use. For me it really boils down to an astetic and feely choice. DO you like the knobs, color ect... on one better than another?

I am posting this question to get updated feedback on Dacor, Wolf, and Viking rangetops. The three are very similar in terms of look, power output and price. I tend to lean towards the Dacor or Viking due to their raised burners, as they seem easier clean. I also like the look of the brass burner on Dacor and Viking. Can anyone comment on the reliability of either of the three? It seems that Dacor and Wolf get very good reviews. Viking might be hit or miss, but I wonder if it has gotten better in the past couple years?

I believe the Wolf range top comes with either sealed OR open burners, or just the open burners, while the cooktop comes with only sealed burners. The AG range comes with open burners, the DF range comes with sealed burners. If you go to the Wolf/SZ webstie, you can find out for sure (loads of info, pics, specs....on their site).

FWIW, we recently got a Wolf AG range. The open burners have a very tight opening, so barring a spillover, it's not too likely that much is going to end up on the drip tray anyway (which you can just line with foil, and replace when needed--nobody sees it unless you slide out the tray). As for cleaning the black enamel burner pans/range top, you'd need to do that whether your burners were sealed or open. With open burners, you can lift out the pans themselves (3 of them), and bring to the sink to clean, or just spritz them with your preferred cleaner/de-greaser, and wipe clean (which is what I've done so far). I'm not too big on cleaning the burner rings (unless they're really messy from spills), and they are easy enough to lift up and then clean (burnt on stuff is probably just as difficult or easy to remove on most burners; open or sealed).

I don't know anything about the Dacor, but we absolutely love our 36" Wolf cooktop. The simmer is great on it, and it's on all of the burners, which I like.

I've had the 36" wolf cooktop for a little over two years. I've been very happy with it.
