I have no idea on the seller.

However the GPS seems an excellent price. I hope yours is louder than my MIO220s. To hear mine I really need a headset and I drive a minivan not any kind of tank and I am not deaf.

Be aware updates do not appear to be free either. My maps are 2 years old with no update in sight. Not that any main roads move but for local directions it seems mildly important.

Owbist, thanks for your reply.
I am looking at the TomTom920 and the price is the best I have found. A friend of mine has the 910 and loves it. I'm not really familiar with any of the GPS systems, so I'm trying to gather any information on the Garmin and TomTom. They seem to be the most popular. I do a lot of online shopping and always try to find someone who has purchased from the sites to see if they have good customer service, etc.

This is slightly different from what you are looking at, but is some ways appropriate. Using Google Earth you should be able to locate the position of the tree you planted with or with out GPS. Find the general area where the tree was planted and zoom into the area and find the nearly exact the location where you planted the tree. You can increase the accuracy of the position by measuring from two hard object that can be seen in Google Earth to the tree, then transfer those measurements to the Google Earth using the measuring function in Google earth. You can measure things in Google earth to the nearest foot.. Once you locate the trees you planted in Google Earth place a Placemark at the site of each tree. In the Placemark description you can place all of the statistics about the tree. While I have never seen, you can back up all of this information, and transfer it to other computers with Google Earth. These two files contain that information myplaces.backup.kml and myplaces.kml Copy them to the folder you want to use as a back up or copy them in the same Google directory on the other computer. If you install Google Earth you will be over writing the ones created on installation. In Window 8.1 they are located in C:\Users\account \AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth Account is the name of the user account. If you have an earlier version of Windows they are in the Application data. Or you can search for them use the above file name. I transferred the information to my Windows 8.1 computer from and Windows XP computer using this technique. I have used this exact procedure to locate ancestors graves to archive the location. I hope this proves to be useful. This post was edited by knuttle on Mon, Nov 18, 13 at 13:02

Need Advice for Purchasing a GPS...

You have quite an imagination, chas. Maybe 15 years ago, I was on a trip to a Southern city I'd never been to before. I flew in the night before and found my hotel with directions from the car rental company. I got up in the morning needing to drive about 10 miles to an appointment. I asked the woman at the hotel's front desk how to get to 3600 XYZ Street, she gave me directions. As I got off the freeway, I realized something was wrong, I was in a seedy neighborhood (abandoned buildings, those not abandoned had bars over doors and windows) although I WAS in the 3600 block of XYZ street. I cautiously found a payphone (yeah, that long ago), made a call, and was informed that I must have gone to 3600 EAST XYZ Street instead of 3600 West XYZ Street. I sheepishly arrived 20 minutes late to my meeting. I'll refrain from describing my personal emotions that morning. As for your various silly scenarios, wrong destination details will always take you to the wrong place, whether you're using technology or asking for directions in a gas station. I've learned to get accurate information and a cross street, it helps. Devices don't break so suddenly as you would like to suggest. You should be happy using whatever method works for you. Personally, I won't own a car without a GPS system, and I have a portable one to use when I travel and rent cars. I've been using them for >10 years, daily and in far-flung places, and none of the things you mention have ever happened to me. A few silly routings, of course, that's part of the fun. Have I gotten lost or failed to arrive where desired? Never.

I suggest buying the Honda unit. They are very friendly and much easier to use with their larger displays and such than a portable unit. They also can't be stolen since they are part of the car (not easily anyway). If you do want to buy a portable unit, Garmen units are superb from ease of use. Like the Honda unit, they are pricier than the competition but work quite well (I have two).

My brother recently bought a Garmin 255WT. I used it on Sat to drive from one Estate Sale to another with a friend. I recommend it highly. It's user friendly, has a 4.3 screen and free lifetime traffic alerts, a service that the Magellan wanted to charge a monthly fee to use. It was $169 on sale at Best Buy, I've seen it on sale since also.

If you use the google check out it is even cheaper.

oh now this is interesting the buy.com site which has a cheaper price on it is shipped from 6th ave. so you are definitely getting a better deal through buy.com LOL
Here is the link to a $10 off coupon for you at buy.com

here is a search on buy.com of other gps. they have some very good prices. I got a nextel gps from them and I love it, it does everything the big names do but was a lot cheaper it even has a remote control and we love it. Glad I did not spend extra for the name.

Thanks Raven...I purchased my refurbished Creative Lab Mp3 player from buy.com and am very satisfied with them. I had checked buy.com when I was looking at another GPS model and when I found the 920 at 6ave at such a good price, I never went back to buy.com to check their price on the 920.
Thanks for the link for the coupon. Looks like I might own a TomTom LOL.
