GE Profile Induction Reliability
Comments (2)Actually it is a cook top, model number PHP900. I would think that reliability should be the same for a cook top and a range from the same manufacturer. We love the performance of the induction - but the electronics is an issue. The first one that failed had an error code and it was cheaper to replace the entire unit rather than fix the one thing. For this one, the repair person is coming tomorrow; so we don't know the issue yet. There is no fault code, just every burner is set at 8 1/2 and the timer is going off and there is no touch response. This happened about 3 hours after we had last used it. We had to turn off the circuit breaker. Sometimes if you leave the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds or so, the unit will reset. This didn't work for us. Very disappointing, cause otherwise we love the induction cooking itself....See MoreShould I buy extended warranty for my induction cook top?
Comments (2)Yes! My four-year-old induction range is acting up. The largest (and most used) hob will only work sporadically. Started this about about a week after I had to put in a new control board in the French door fridge for the tune of about $700. Both are Samsung. I didn't buy the extended warranty. Appliance repairman said the landfill is full of almost-new appliances; something like 1 in 4 appliances there are less than 5 years old. Now I understand that some stores (Sears here in Canada) offer extended warranty plans that if at the end of the term you don't use it, will credit it back to you! After this experience with almost-new appliances, I wouldn't buy another without it....See MoreDecision Time: induction range vs. induction cooktop with oven below
Comments (30)dsgulbas, are you arguing that Wolf is a commercial quality range??? I hope you understand that the Wolf commercial range company is NOT the one you are advocating. The Wolf brand name was purchased by a refrigeration company that has never produced a commercial range. The original Wolf stove company operates out of California and produces commercial stoves but has no relationship whatsoever to SubZero. Here is their website: http://www.wolfequipment.com/Wolf/Products/subcat.aspx?brand=Wolf&cid=1&scid=38 SubZero/Wolf gas stoves are not commercial quality and don't even have open burners, they are very good stoves but first and foremost are prime examples of kitchen jewelery. SubZero/Wolf ranges may be heavy but they are not long lasting. Try to get a Wolf gas range porcelain oven interior fixed after the warranty expires and you'll soon find out they are essentially disposable items. Been there done that. I will never defend Samsung as I've had bad experiences with them too but I don't see Wolf being any more (or even as) reliable than GE, Electrolux, Bosch and a few others that are sold in less exclusive stores....See MoreCafe “Modern” induction range vs Profile Induction range
Comments (18)@lynne3450 Which one did you ultimately get? If you go t the cafe, would you mind sharing your setup, I am curious as to how it looks in a non-showroom kitchen. I think the price difference is because of the material used and smaller production run. @katj461 There is a comprehensive thread on induction range if you search "induction range" that briefly talks about them. I've heard the kitchenaid takes 30 minutes to preheat because of the large oven size and has a weird control....See Morellaatt22
