My First Computer Virus

I ran a complete AVG scan last night and I had the usual tracking cookies but when I opened the Resident Shield it said I had a Win32/Fujacks virus

Virus found Win/Fujacks

Object C\WINNT\system 32\dllcache\sigtab.dll

Result Infected

Type File

Process c\WINNT\system\winlogon.exe

I didn't know what to do with it so I ran a full Malwarebyte Scan and this was the log produced.

c:\RECYCLER\s-1-5-21-1177238915-688789844-842925246-1000\Dc2.exe (Rogue.Installer) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

c:\RECYCLER\s-1-5-21-1177238915-688789844-842925246-1000\Dc3.exe (Rogue.Installer) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I then used the Remove button to remove it.

Avg also found a potentially harmful Fake-AntiSpyware.

ALL C:Program Files\AdwareAlert\AdwareAlert.exe

One was deleted and the other was moved into the Virus Vault.

Are these the same ones that Malwarebytes found.

I don't know too much about computers. Is the infected virus gone now?

My operating system is Windows 2000 Professional

Thanks for any help you may have to offer me.

I don't think 6 years is bad for computer life. Technology changes so fast that many change computers often even if nothing is wrong with the old one. But, have you had the computer looked at? See what it would take to have it fixed? We have a desktop system that is very rarely used. Hubby has a laptop and I have a netbook. I love my netbook (small laptop). I like Apple products. We both have Iphones and I use an Ipad. However, at work we use Dell and MS programs. I also do hubby's contract work bookkeeping, some of which goes on to the accountant. The accountant uses MS. So, no Mac for us. My dad is crazy over his! I don't think though that you have to go with a Mac to avoid virus problems. You don't open email attachments unless you know what they are - right? I'd be curious as to where you're picking up the virus.

I think someone mentioned that what you posted, the registry change wasn't necessarily bad but could be from a program being removed. I wonder if there is a way to find out if you were actually infected with something? This is why I suggested the Panda scan because it would have told you. btw, make sure you do windows updates. I personally would get rid of Mcafee. I know you paid for it but it's a resource hog. For backups I have multiple hard drives, they are cheap. I have an external enclosure that holds 2 drives. I have a computer running windows XP, installed the Maxtor Maxblast program and use that to back up to the larger drives. As far as I know, they don't have a program (Maxtor) like this for Vista but I could be wrong. What it will do is back it up as files verses a file that you have to unpack. If you back up your C drive, you will see every folder on the C drive in your backup.

For your malwarebytes logs just do what you normally do to run malwarebytes open the program but instead of letting it run look along the top and there are some tabs there one of the tabs says logs if you click that it will show you what it found on your scans that is what you need to copy and pasted over there so we can see what the infections were that malwarebytes found, that will help determine what direction to go and what to look for that could still be hiding. Generally the only ones that will respond to you in that area of LzD will be the pros. As you can see if you look under both Corrine's name and Winchester's you will see that they are both Admin on LzD so you will be in good hands with them. I understand exactly how you feel since you are new there and have no idea who anyone there is. Feel free to ask anything I am happy to help.

Please Download Malwarebytes: Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
