The floors will be concrete. Incase that matters.

We have infloor outlets in our great room. They were carefully planned to be where the end tables are in the living room area and they are not intrusive. With nothing plugged into them, they are flat. Our floors are also concrete, so they had to be planned before the concrete was poured.

Did you use conduit for the wiring? Im not really sure where the furniture is going. Hubby feels they will be intrusive. What kind did you use? Maybe I can look them up online and show him

I will use them too, only in a wood floor. It's sure better than cords crossing the floor, even they are a little bit noticable!

I am going to buy the conduit and plugs when I leave work to have this exact thing done before they pour the slab on Friday. I am just putting one in the middle of the great room. Hopefully that will be enough. I figure with a rug and coffee table it will be hidden.

We have two -- brass, round cover and flush to the wood floor. It's very common.

Besides knowing the location of the plugs before the pour, it helps if you know the type and thickness of the flooring you will be using so the box(s) can be set accordingly. If you dont have that decision made, they can set the box(s) flush and you can use extenders that will work with the flooring choice.

I have three, two are in the GR and one in the kitchen (for a rolling island). In both rooms we've put 8" white oak plank flooring and the plugs are kind of a light beige tone. I was right on with the location of two of them but the third is off about 2 feet from where I had hoped it would be. So we're putting in a larger area rug to hide that one. I remember standing with GC before the concrete even went in and GC asked where I wanted the plugs. I told him there was no way of me answering that question when I didn't have a clue looking at a cleared piece of land where the greatroom was even going to be!

I got mine a few hours ago at a lighting store. Three 10ft. lines of conduit and a floor plug were less than $20. Who says building a house is expensive????? LOL!!!!!!!!!

I found the cardboard box for the one I put in my house. The manufacturer is Lew Electric. I got it with an alumimum face. The lighting store had to look a while to find one that wasn't bright brass.

THANK YOU everyone for your help. Ill call the lighting store today and see if they carry them. I know where two are going, Hopefully I can figure out where the other one is going. Now to figure out the color,hope they have one that will look good with the floor. it will be in earth tones. Acid wash concrete.

Try this link for your concrete floor. Half way down is a masonry PVC floor box shown with two dark colored trims. If you click on "Enter Here for the Complete PVC Product Series" you'll see even more trim options. One of those should do the trick for you.

Lowes does so carry them -- at least in Dallas. I saw them last Saturday.

I have one in my concrete floor. It has a pop up cover which gets in the way if you put a rug down. Could I just take a hacksaw to the brass cover to get rid of it? I also purchased a flat plug extension cord so a rug could cover the outlet less noticably.

I have two of them in my LR...I knew where to have them put them because I had taken my floor plan and scaled where my sofas and chairs would sit (mostly out in the middle of a big open living area) so that one ended up under the sofa and the other ended up under end table between two chairs. They are brass, which looks good with slate floor (even though they are hidden under furniture) and have a fold-up door that, yes, could be removed if necessary.

cynandjon...if you are still early enough (slab not being poured immediately) your builder and/or electrician should be able to deal with this easily if you will just draw in where you want them on your plans; they should also be able to tell you what is available as far as finish, but I would think the brass ones should be perfect for your stained concrete floor...you can either let the brass age and darken or use one of those metal-darkening chemicals or rub on some of the floor stain.

Brio, This is a DIY house. We are the builder contractor architect, carpenter etc. LOL The floor will be poured within the next few weeks. THe brass actually would be good because it does darken. Good Idea thanks.

I have dark stained concrete floors and used brass plugs. I used ORB hardware throughtout the house but the metal plug plates came in silver or brass only. It looks fine. I have two plugs in the family room and placed them where I felt tables, not rugs would go. I can pass along a pic if you are interested. Keep in mind that your concrete around the plugs will not be as smooth as other areas because the concrete finishing tools "bump" into the plug housing, which in my case was plastic. The electrician cuts off the housing flush with the concrete and installs the brass plates when they trim out the house at the end.

Mine are very similar to txgal's pics, except mine are completely flat and set flush into the floor (no bevel.) Sounds like you have time to decide where they go and congrats on the DIY part...it'll be fun to watch for progress reports from you!

What company are yours. Im wondering cause they are flat to the floor. Do they have caps on them?
