Tampa Mustangs win USA/ASA 16U Fastpitch Southern National Championship!

We have been on the road for 10 days with our Mustangs teams and I just had to brag about our success!!

(CindyNY's girls use to play ball and she and I could compare notes--I miss her)

Maybe it's just that there is no such forum for english-speakers (opportunity knocks?). By stand-offish I merely mean that english speakers and northern europeans in general are much more reserved than latin language-speakers, as a generality. In brazilian portuguese they refer to this latter attribute as "calor-humano". Regarding the situation between Mestizos and the more pure Colonials, yes, I think what you encountered is normal. No doubt what I see on that Spanish forum for the most part is Colonials interacting with Continentals. I now return y'all to our more sheltered lives and gardens.....

Congrats to the champions! I remember when I was in Paris, I was overwhelmed by the variety of very fresh seafood. So I bought a pot and an electric stove, smuggled into my hotel room and cooked. (With the bathroom exhaust fan going) With fresh seafood, all you need is salt and pepper, and a length of baguette. dcarch

Interesting read! I was aware of many things mentioned.... didn't ever hear that about Jack Whitaker, but do remember Gary McCord. lol! One year he commented about the conditions being so perfect that "you couldn't lose a contact lens in this rough". LOL! Then I believe he made the mistake of referring to the "bikini-waxed greens" and "bodies buried behind the green" (indicating how difficult it was to get up-and-down from there). That was his last year there too. :p I missed him! Just heard Frank Nobilo refer to the Masters winners as champions. He's on the golf channel though, so I guess he'll be back. :)

Claire, Par-tay -- that was a concern for me as the 18U tournament was played in Las Vegas. We kept reinforcing ---"What Happens in Vegas, DOESN'T Stay in Vegas".

BTW-there were 140 teams from the entire country playing all week for the National Champs title!

Congratulations, that is great! I'd be glad that they were 18 and under in LV...lol. How proud you must be!

Did you or do you have a group going to Washington (state)? I had a friend whose DGD was playing in a tournament in Ft. Worth trying to make the rounds to go to Washington state for the finals and I think she was 13U. Does your team travel alot, generally? It sounds like her DGD does with her team.

Again, congratulations and I whole-heartedly believe sports play a very important role in young kids lives and kuddos to you for being a part of that.

YAAAAY! I know what a thrill that was! You and Raymond must be so excited! I know I was when my son won the nationals in their division in soccer. I will never forget that unbelievable moment. Congratulations! You and Ray deserve it.

Thanks everyone! It was totally unexpected and so awesome getting off the plane in Tampa and being welcomed with a large marquee flashing:
"WELCOME HOME Tampa Mustangs 18U ASA National Champions"
Brenda, Yes we travel a lot. We were in Boulder, CO last month; that gave me the wonderful opportunity to have lunch with Lee/Lsr2002.

We were suppose to go through Idaho on the way to South Dakota (where the 16U Nationals were) so I could visit with KatieC, but airfare was too expensive. Last year we played (and won) the Hall of Fame Tournament in Oklahoma City; David/Lakeguy joined us for a really great visit.

The tournament in Skagit Valley, WA is the 14U Western Region Championship. Karen, I certainly remember Logan's championship season!

Now...I'm just waiting for next year when some farmer or feed store finds a set of car keys in their corn...LOL!!

WHOOO HOOO!! CONGRATULATIONS to you, to Ray and to those amazing girls!

We were in Skagit, actually Anacortes, Washington and saw one of the teams at dinner and at at the motel! I was thinking about you. I know that the local Washington girls didn't make it but lost to the team from Simi Valley, CA. Those poor Washington girls practically got heat stroke playing in the unfamiliar broiling temperatures of the Pacific Northwest! I can only imagine what it must have been like to play in the desert of Las Vegas!

Way to go, Girls! Congratulations to all of you. SOmehow that win makes sitting on the side of the road with a busted rental car worth it, even if the keys are in the cornfield.

Yippee! I KNEW you would win. Raymond is a first rate (should be nationally famous) coach, and his wife is the best darned team supporter in the world.

Cathy -- big congrats to you and your team. This is something the girls will remember forever. What a wonderful experience for them.

I am just soooo happy for all of you. You and Raymond really are so admirable to be doing this -- even if it is fun.
