Good to hear from you, Lori. I'm still stunned. What a mess. Mystic's been approved for Federal FEMA funds already. The Gov. & a FEMA rep were here yesterday. We got a reverse 911 call today from the Stonington Police Captain providing claim instructions. We've also got FEMA Flood Insurance. We suspect our mil rate will be increased soon to help pay for this disaster. Everywhere we try to go...same thing..."Road Closed - Flooded". Isn't it amazing how the water just bubbles up through the floors? Our toliets wouldn't flush on Tuesday & the water backed-up into the tub. The water just perked up through the foundation & flooring like a fountain. We're on a slab. No basement 'cause the water table is too high. Wow, it's really too high now! Our property was under water for a couple days. There's spots of grass showing now but you can't walk on them...sink down a foot in the muck easily. So, I really understand about Seth getting the SUV stuck. We can't tell yet if our foundation has been undermined...still too much water to check. We're also having lots of trees just topple over. One minute they're standing there fine & the next minute over they go...boom. All over town. The town says they don't know if the utility poles are structurally sound either. I am still disbelieving of how badly Elm Grove Cemetery flooded. I never expected to have our route to I-95 blocked by flooding of the cemetery. Whitford Brook became a raging river destroying everything in its path & all pouring into the Mystic. The antique store in Old Mystic has lost their entire inventory. Dumpsters everywhere. Repairs are already underway at the Flanders Road bridge. We need that bridge...can't get to the dump without the bridge & there's lots of stuff that needs to go to that transfer station. I'm so sorry to read about your flooding. You're also right on the water so I'm assuming you've also got FEMA Flood coverage? We pay so darn much for that insurance. I always thought if the day came we needed it...it would be from the Sound. Not rain all the way from Cuba! Is your house liveable? Mold is going to be a problem. Please be safe. Alton Dam is holding so the Westerly evacuation has been halted. Some good news. Pawcatuck is just devestated in the downtown area. There's just too much damage to even list. I've seen the pictures of the mall...Macy's got to have close to 8' of water surrounding the building. Well, again, be safe. Are your utilities still on? We have power & our propane tank survived. I'm not too sure I deserve any "thanks" for agreeing to the NIH studies. Frankly, I'm scared. I just know deep inside there's a responsibility that's been given to me along with the opportunity of relief. I'm not the only woman out there wondering why being in the same room with her active grandkids, or those darn TV commercials where the sound gets louder, or having somebody I love try to give me a hug, or a cool breeze across my skin on a hot July day or swallowing a spoonful of ice cream to moisten my ever dry mouth (dry mouth = Sjogren's) causes indescribable pain deep in my body that doesn't go away for hours & I end up a shivering, quaking mess sitting on the side of my bed rocking back/forth screaming. From personal experience, I know that many doctors will tell these woman the pain is imaginary, or worse, that they should be seeing a shrink & not a neuro doctor. Soon, the person suffering feels crazy & a vicious cycle begins. They start avoiding situations that have started the horrible pain in the past & their lives get smaller & smaller. Anyway, if I can provide spinal fluid, blood, EMGs, etc. that smart folks find useful to learn more about this condition then I'm obligated. My doctor said he believes, with treatments from several specialties, they can lower my overall pain levels significantly from the current daily averages of 6-9 to a 3-4. That, folks, is a miracle & so I signed my name on the line agreeing to participate in the NIH studies. I would, of course, receive the same treatments even if I didn't sign but there's that nagging obligation thing... But, I'm human & scared. The tests will cause more, hopefully, short-term pain & I'm trying to get my mind wrapped around voluntarily doing something that causes more pain. /tricia

I agree. It's nice to see. I don't really mind old threads. It happens. And will continue. I lost a recipe that i had posted here and did a google search with my user name and it came right up on top. I made ice-cream because of the recent post ye olde resurrected. Someone searching may not be familiar with the itty bitty mini date stamp. I have PC and Superstone un-glazed. Found when i made room for the new freezer over the weekend. My Superstone has a nice patina. It will suffer thermal shock like glass bakeware. I give mine a bit of oil and wipe clean, never wash. Then place it in the oven and turn it on low heat just to get it warm to the touch. It can then handle heat as long as it is not fridge cold. Rule of thumb is to never put any frozen foods directly on/in stoneware. I still am careful about fridge cold. I have had a few recent thermal breaks. One was warm from the microwave into a warm water bath. Maybe the glass top rim was cool-ish. I could not find anything about the PC care and usage. I just apply my Superstone cooking tips to PC.

I used chicken stock since I had some sitting around, and cod filets. Made the recipe exactly, except that the soup wasn't thickening up enough so I removed the large potato pieces and buzzed the rest with a stick blender. The soup was very tasty! Unfortunately we gave half of it away to my son's drama teacher who has been working all weekend on the sets for the class play, that was SWMBO's idea, grrrr. I managed to get one small bowl for myself. I took it into the corner and ate it with my back to the room, snarling at anyone nearby, lest they take my Preciousssss soup. I was also called on to provide a deboned and roasted chicken, roast potatoes, and salad for the parent volunteers also working on the set this weekend. I also made hamburgers and green beans for my kids, a beef stew for leftovers during the week, and roasted the first chestnuts of the year for dear daughter who loves them.

I have exchanged a few emails with Tricia and more recently her husband. Tricia is recovering from some recent health problems and assures her forum friends that she will return when able - in a few weeks perhaps.

From her husband: "Since she has been ill I have been nurse, housekeeper and COOK. She is looking forward to some real food. :)"

Healing thoughts to you, Tricia! And good wishes to your DH.

I'm so sorry to read this and am adding my good thoughts and prayers for Tricia and her husband. I know I could not have survived my illness and ongoing recovery had it not been for my DH. So special blessings to your DH Tricia.
