Please, somebody just tell me which dishwasher to buy!

Hi everyone. I need help. We are building a new house and meet with the cabinet guy next week. I am supposed to have the model number for all of the appliances I want. I have researched online, visited stores, and searched these forums until I want to scream. But, I have settled on my fridge (Samsung), my range top (Electrolux), and the double oven (Electrolux).

That leaves the dishwasher. I just want someone to tell me which one to buy if I want to stay under $700. I know that is a low budget, but there just has to be a good one out there for that price, right? It just needs to be SS to match my other appliances. Anyone?

Thanks so much for any suggestions.

Bosch. A quick check of Lowes.com has 4 under $700. I love mine (SHE43P05UC... but it's 2 years old and Canadian, not sure what current model number would be equivalent). Lowes is always having sale prices on them as well.
My Bosch SS colour goes fine with my E'lux range and K'Aid fridge, but nonw of them are directly beside the other.

Get a mid-priced KA - clean well and quiet. Some of them still have heated dry. Bosch gets mixed reviews these days since most of them are made in US and not Germany - complaints of smells and not drying well.

A couple large soup ladles, along with very long and large serving spoons, cutting knives and forks, and large spatulas and mixing spoons fit in our Bosch SHE68E15UC cutlery tray even with a full assortment of regular silverware. You might think the KA cutlery tray is too close to the top of the dishwasher. I thought that, too, in regard to the Bosch. But the space between the center of the tray and the inside top approaches 3". Are you sure the KA has too little room for your serving spoons, ladles, etc? The cutlery trays typically do angle closer to the top at as your approach the sides of the dishwasher. This is to give additional room for the stems of tall wine glasses which are positioned on the middle tray (which itself can be raised and lowered on either or both sides to accommodate really tall items on that tray.) One thing you'll really appreciate about the cutlery tray (on any model) is the additional space gained on the bottom tray. This extra space is great for pots and pans, or casserole dishes and covers.

One of the appliance folk can probably say with more certainty than I could but the model you chose looks like the Optima I had in my apartment, which was a great, great dw. I have a 10 y.o. Incognito though it dries very well. I've never opened the door. Here's what Miele says about how the drying system works -- it is not heated drying and requires no energy usage. "Most Miele dishwashers employ an advanced drying system that draws room temperature air through a port at the bottom of the appliance. This air is disbursed through special channels around the exterior dishwasher cavity and allows the interior water particles to condense against the walls of the dishwasher. During this process no external air is ever introduced inside of the dishwasher. This provides the most effective and hygienic drying possible." The reason the dishes get dryer on Saniwash is because that water is very hot and, provided the dw is fairly full, the condensation is quite complete. I have Ikea cabinets in the laundry room so I'm aware of precautions with those. Their plinth board in there is starting to peel though the cabinets are doing fine. I would just be aware and make adjustments needed. The DW does come with a front piece that is contiguous with the toe kick in my kitchen but that would depend on which Ikea cabinets are being used and how they are being installed. Crystal looks like a good choice to me.

Buying Asko dishwasher, but which one?

The Kenmore 1374 and the Kenmore Elite 1378 came in first and second respectively. The Asko was tops in Energy use, washing and noise while the Kenmores beat it in loading flexibilty and ease of use. I suspect that with three machines that perform this well the categories may be splitting hairs. Which one is better? It's hard to judge. Unless I had the three washers in front of me, filled with the same work load and I was able to check them for myself, I couldn't say. If your are looking at Consumer reports opinion there's also the issue of repairs, but people have said that Asko has addressed some of its issues-I hope so. I have an mid price Kenmore that I love, but for our new build I am quite interested at looking at the Asko myself.

Hi kat, welcome to the learning curve. There is a FAQ link at the top of the forum page. Start there. Here are some questions to get you started... Do you want a front loader (FL) or top loader (TL)? If you want a front loader, do you want an internal heater? If you donÂt know, please read the Laundry Room FAQ (insert link here). Where in the house will the washer be set up Â second floor, basement, closet? What is the floor made of? What are your space configurations/confinements? Are you looking for undercounter units? How big a machine do you want? How many loads a week do you do or want to do? Do you have special laundry considerations like shedding pets, or young children in diapers? Do you have any problems now that you are hoping to solve with a new machine? How important to you is the loudness of the machine? Do you want controls on the top rear or front of the machine? Where are your hook-ups Â washer on left/right, stackable? Are you looking for just a washer, and if not, do you need/want a matching dryer? What factors are most important to you: cost, reliability, performance, speed, water/electricity savings, controls (specify things like: water temp, type and amount of cycles, cycle times, spin speed, ability to open the machine and add chemicals or clothes)? How much do you want to spend? Do you have a preferred vendor Â Sears, Best Buy, Independent retailer, Lowes/Home Depot (some may have deals going)? Have you called a few of the extended warranty companies to ensure they are within servicing distance?

I'd suggest calling your higher end appliance dealers and see if any of them are selling their Miele dishwasher floor models. Since the newer models came out last month, people have reported very good deals on the floor models. You might be able to get the Inspira model for under $1000.

Here is how to get a DW:
Email a few of the retailers you like. Write that you "have settled on fridge (Samsung), range top (Electrolux), and double oven (Electrolux)" and that you want to buy these along with a dishwasher, any dishwasher, that is fairly quiet (and insert one more criterion here if you have one), but has nothing specific that makes it cost a great deal.

At least one of the retailers will give you a deal that seems too good to refuse.

The Kenmore Elite is as good as any, wait for it to go on sale for 30% off.
Ours has preformed flawlessly for 7 years now.

I got my Miele Inspira from a showroom clearance room for about half price. I was shocked, and pleased. Keep a sharp eye out in those clearance rooms, you never know what might come in unexpectedly for a stellar price! Otherwise, a midrange KA is also a good bet. My mom and SIL have them and like them just fine.

I feel your pain--choosing a dishwasher just shouldn't be this hard!!! We just got a KitchenAid KUDC10FXSS stainless steel with heated dry, food disposer, 4 cycles, fully integrated, tall tub, with concealed controls from Lowe's for $727 after tax over the weekend with their 15% off sale. Black or white (vs. stainless) runs about $100 less. Sears had them for about the same amount too. With Lowe's if there is not a sale going on, you can go to their website and download their 'moving coupon' for 10% off regular price. I've always had a KitchenAid and never been disappointed.
