are you having a drain pan for your washer in the laundry room?

Just curious about what you all are doing? I asked for one, but now wonder how hard it'll be to sit the washer into it. The dryer will need to go in first (I assume, due to attaching the vent), and there will only be about 6-8" additional space along the w/d wall with both appliances in place.

I guess I could have them take out the drain pan and just put a strainer thing on the drain opening. The floor won't slope towards it, but it'd be better than nothing.

(My previous washer had a mystery, part-time leak, and a friend's had a leak go unnoticed long enough that it caused her wood floors to buckle---which is why I have concern about it).

I put a pan under mine (reqd for 2nd floor), its not that big of a deal getting it over the 1-2" lip.

We have one and wish we didn't.

They installed it hard against the wall, despite my complaining that I thought it would place the washer too close to the wall. Builder was adamant that it wouldn't be a problem. Short story, builder was wrong, I was right. We have to have the dryer closer to the wall than we wanted, or just have the units uneven at the front, which is totally unacceptable, in my opinion.

The pan is metal and is set on the sub-floor. Tile surrounds it. It was moderately difficult to get the washer in there, especially since we put tiles in the pan to raise the washer to the same height as the dryer.

What is really annoying is there is no real need for the pan. The laundry room sits over a root cellar. A Washer leak would not be devastating. I would much rather have had a drain centered in a slight depression under the washer. It would have looked better and made the washer/dryer installation and servicing so much easier.

I would like to remove it and fill in the area with tiles, but right now we have a lot more urgent things to do.

Photographs? Are you adding a gas line so this is the issue with the connection? I would not cut the pan as you asking for a source of failure along the glue line.

I have the bosch 500, but no pan.... my machine measures just over 27 wide and just about 28 deep... can't reach my arm all the way back at the floor, so that's based on the top for depth... it 'bows' out on the from sides, but back to what looks to be the same as the top by the time it gets to the bottom... take a measuring tape with you.... on the other hand... these machines have about 7-11 gallons of water max in them at a time... I'm not as worried about the machine popping a leak dead bottom as I am about a hose bursting on my second floor... thus always remember to turn to water off/on to the machine... a pan does no good for a burst hose....

We have an LG front load washer that has sprung 4 leaks in less than 4 years. First it was a water line coming from the cold water inlet valve, then the bellows hose, then the cold water inlet valve, and now the hot water inlet valve. The washer and drier are in a tight area in our laundry room, and the leaks have all been towards the rear of the washer. This makes them difficult to notice, as the water has been pooling up under the rear of the washer against the baseboard. My wife noticed water squishing out from under one of the 12 x 12 ceramic tiles in front of the washer a few days ago. I went under the house and found a water-logged OSB subfloor that is crumbling. Now I get to pull up the tile, hardyboard, and subfloor. I bought a drain pan from Home Depot that I'll have to install once the new floor goes down. My question is, is there a trick to getting a drain pan under the washer without breaking it, or should I set the washer down in it, then slide it in place?

oakleyok, I love your laundry room! Absolutely beautiful. countrygal, the laminate has held up well. It's been through 2 dogs, 2 cats and 4 kids so it's taken a lot of abuse! I've been after my husband for a couple of years to replace it because it seemed to be fading. Could also be that I messed the finish up over time using the wrong cleaners. Regardless, it was a lower end floor (money wise) to begin with so I have to say I was very pleased with it.
