I had a BEAP offer recently and as usual I stated that whoever responded had to post on my offer and send me an email and not to use GW's email. I received a GW email from her and noticed that she had nothing on her member page and had just registerd. Since she had her email address on her member page, I sent her my address, received her stamps and sent her the seed I was offering. I don't really mind. I hope she does plant them and I hope they do well. From now on my requirements will be even more strict. I feel that everyone should take time to fill out their member page. Thanks again to Sue for all she does. She is truely GW's resident busy body! I mean that in a good way because you are always very "busy" helping every "body". jim_6b

When I adopted my 4 month old large pup last April, she was severely traumatized by her previous experiences before I came along. She didn't want to get into the car (I literally had to pick her up to get her in, then she went nuts). All of this made for a very challenging time at the vet. I have another large dog who is terrified of the beeps smoke detectors give off when they are going low, as well as beeps from a cell phone when it leaves messages. She is completely uncontrollable. Thunderstorms are no problem, go figure,,,, Getting back to the pup issue, when my vet first saw her situation she sprayed her with a product called D.A.P. Dog Appeasing Pheromone Spray. In severe situations, you spray this on the dog's back and rub it in. Typically, you spray it on a collar or on blankets the dog lays on. It emits an odor the mother dog has to calm her pups. This has worked for me for two of my three large dogs (the other doesnt need it). That said, I have heard that it does not work for all dogs. If you are interested in this, I can forward a toll free number via my e-mail. With negative behavior you really need to be sure that you do not reinforce it. Even though you may not think you are, in reality talking and coddling the dog when all of this is going on could very well be telling the dog that it's o.k. that it goes nuts when fireworks or loud sounds go off. Of course, previous experiences enter into the whole picture also. Do you have a crate? Dogs love the feeling of being enclosed, especially when they are frightened. The crate should have a comfortable blanket on the floor, and additionally a heavy type blanket over the top that will make it dark in the crate. All of this should help the dog get a feeling that the crate is it's place to go and be secure. If when crated, the dog starts to whine or do something you don't approve of, VERY VERY LIGHTLY tap on the top of the crate and GENTLY say NO. This should stop the behavior. Playing soft music when crated will also help. It really does calm them. I have suggested the crate theory many times and people said it has worked. I have used it also with great success. Good luck!
