which ovens/ranges get hot to the touch?
Comments (10)I was also concerned about the level of heat from the oven door but opted for the Bluestar anyways, my first choice. I've had it for a little over a month and while it does give off some heat it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I can keep my hand on the oven door and not burn myself. The newer ones now come with vents along the side of the oven doors to help the heat from building up too much so maybe this has made a big improvement. The inside of my cabinets on the side of my range does not get hot. Nor has the laminate counter top melted or get hot from using the 22K burners. Stirfrying is amazing with those burners if that's your cooking preference. I understand your safety concerns. I'm more worried that my 10 year old will burn himself using the top of the stove when he's making his omelettes and pancakes but so far that hasn't happened. I wouldn't let him use the wok though, as there are serious flames up the sides of the wok, maybe as he gets older. But that's my point, you need to teach your kids how to be responsible around the stove. Just keep an eye on the toddlers while they are in the kitchen (afterall ANY stove with front knobs will tweek their curiosity). But don't fret, if they accidently touch the front, they will feel heat but in my opinion it won't be a bad "ouch". And just remember, kids will grow up faster than you think, so get the range that will make you happy in the long run....See MoreBlue Star oven takes FOREVER to get hot...
Comments (42)We are moving from a house with a lacanche volnay and much smaller oven, which i LOVE, to a new home with a 36” blue star and this heat up and large oven size is my primary concern. i picked the lacanche over blue star 12 years ago, and have never regretted it. the volnay is like a speed oven, speedy heat up, great convection and fast cooking. roast veg in 30 min for everthing. i think the burners will be fine, though the lacanche often had too much fire power. hope i like the blue star and the oven serves us well and dont have problrms with it. perhaps remind myself that the views in the new house are worth it!...See MoreExtremely hot room
Comments (10)I'd be more concurned wherther my home was sitting atop a volcanic caldera and the geothermal activity that was heating my home might erupt some day soon. Maybe it's time you speak with your neighborhood geoscientist about possible hydrothermal explosions. I lol'ed. Lets look at what we know and see if we can figure it out. Heat rises and this is an upper room, perhaps you can have a damper installed on the register to the room so it is not actively heated and ambient heat from the house can heat the space instead. Also see if you can have an air return installed in this room to pull the hot air out of the room and distribute to the house. You may have to have your air handler set to fan on to keep the air moving and heat averaged out instead of concentrated. Another idea is to have an energy audit done by someone with an IR camera to see if there is a source causing the heat problem. I would have to guess that insulation above is adequate to keep the heat in, which would also keep roof heat out so it cant be that. From what I understand you are sandwiched between two other units. Heat from them may be heating your space. Free heat is a blessing in my opinion, you just need to distribute it somehow. I know when my wife was in an apartment, her place was always warm and her registers rarely ran....See MoreElectrolux Wall Oven Extremely Slow to Preheat!
Comments (12)The tech sheet is Electrolux number 807436903. It can be found via online search accordingly. Most sources are only online viewing unless one signs-up an account at the source library for downloading a copy ... but I didn't check them all. None that I saw are direct from Elux. The resistance of the temp sensor increases with temperature. The tech sheet provides a table of readings at various reference temperature points. 1091 ohms ± 5.3 at a temperature of 75°F ± 2.5 is closest to normal room temperature (cold oven). 1453 ohms ± 8.9 at 250°F ±4.4. 1654 ohms ± 10.8 at 350°F ± 5.4. Note that the sensor can fail such that the response curve goes non-linear ... reads OK at a given low temp but wrong at a higher (baking) temperature. It should be tested across its terminals for a proper reading, and also for a short to ground (s/b no reading). The convection element operates for the initial preheat in non-convection Bake mode, then only the bake and broil elements operate to maintain the temperature. All the elements operate for Convection Bake and Convection Roast for preheating and after. The effect of self-clean is additional thermal stress on the heating components. A manufacturer doesn't reasonably produce models that can't handle normal use of it but running self-clean often (more than 2x yearly) may shorten the life of components. Wall ovens due to being enclosed in the cabinetry regards to heat dissipation are more prone to blowing of a thermal overheat safety fuse, particularly if the internal cooling fan vents are obstructed. I've had no failures of my GE range in 17 years but I run self-clean less than yearly, and it's not a wall oven....See Moreasolo
