Before buying the F&P, see my post about the noise issue I had to solve. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/appl/msg1000065218970.html If you buy F&P, be very careful when installing and moving it as the decorative stainless steel doors can dent very easily - they are paper thin. I got the model without ice or water dispenser for same reasons as mentioned above, but also I do not like drinking water that has been contained in plastic for health reasons. I did not like the french door design because it made little sense on such a small fridge and took up valuable space. I have to say the bottom freezer compartments are very nice and works well. I love the ice tray! The fridge takes some getting used to because it is less deep than a 30 inch - but we no longer come across the odd 4 week old mummified food item that got pushed waaaay back there! For extra space, we removed the wine rack, but left in all the shelves which means a reduced shelf height. The reduced shelf height means we have to repackage a few things for a better fit, but it works well after we got used to it. One more thing, I find the crispers are very good and hold a lot compared to our old fridge. My only real complaint had to do with the constant compressor noise, but thankfully I was able to resolve it.

To throw an entire company under the bus because you got one bad product stemming from an item that is know to have a high failure rate INDUSTRY wide is foolish. People should not draw an false conclusion based on you experience and I am offering some perspective. You are certainly welcome to vote your pocket book on LG or any other company as you see fit. I am certainly welcome to comment on your public comment as well and perhaps you should take some reading comprehension classes as I never weighed in on your fix which is great and quite resourceful. It might also be noted that Kenmore might be to blame in this situation as they contract with LG to make those units. Now they might be the same exact thing with different badges or they might have an entirely different set of specifications and quality levels they ask LG to hit. They are notorious for ordering lesser quality look a likes with their Craftsman tool lines. Now , I have no idea about this specific situation and don't want to take the time to research it, but your angst with LG would again il-founded IF Sears were ordering up an inferior product to begin with. That wouldn't be LG's fault, they only be supplying what was ordered. Again - way to go on a low cost fix to an expensive problem, but shame shame for badmouthing an entire company based on a single product that had a problem.

These comments are so helpful, thanks! I think now I am reassured we will be OK with the dispenser inside the fridge. I am surprised no one has mentioned that you are leaving the fridge door open, letting cold air escape, as you fill a glass with water, so I guess it's not much of an energy loss. Mountaineergirl, we aren't so young, but we "play-acted" at the store scooping ice, and we felt fine with it. Even have our ice scoop picked out (the Oxo, looks awesome) :)) Now to pick the fridge - Whirlpool vs. Kitchenaid (we know they are the same company) vs. Samsung vs. Electrolux. DH loves the look of the Electrolux, but the online reviews are appalling. All I ask is that the icemaker is in the freezer section, not the fridge section. But many french door fridges have the icemaker in the fridge section.

Fis her paykel has a few but they are limited in sizing options. Rf170 is the 31 1/2" wide model that is available in single door or french door. Rf201adusx5 is the 36" wide counter depth. U is the important letter, as that's what indicated water in door.
