System restore without the disc

Is it possible to do a system restore without the restore discs? I have no idea where the disc is..I just want to wipe everything out of my computer so it is just like it was when I brought it home..I have an e machine windows 7..

it probably has it all stored on a separate partition on the hard drive, you should have been prompted to create your discs as soon as you got the pc. If you have not done that yet I would suggest doing that asap then you will have the discs should you ever need them. That info should be in your information from the manufacturer. But you can just google your model and look it up online.
You an also google how to make recovery discs for windows 7 and also how to make an image of your system. Windows 7 has all those options built in now.

If by some chance you have neither the recovery DVD or the separate partition all is still not lost. You can use another Windows 7 DVD of the same version but when inserting the 25 digit activation code DO NOT use the numbers that belong to the DVD you have borrowed. Use the numbers on the sticker on the side of your tower or underneath if a laptop.

You will then have to go online to find all the drivers for your specific brand of computer for the motherboard, LAN, sound and other controllers.

FYI, we did the cleaning of the computer and it wasn't very dusty at all. Surprised me because it's been too long since we did it. Still having the problem of it cutting off, sometimes it will come back to the same place and sometimes I have to reboot. Also can't watch NetFlix or Hulu. I don't have any problems with YouTube. So far I've done the following: Defragged Disc CleanUp Ran these programs that we've been running for a long time, the paid versions. Malwarebytes AVG Antivirus Super AntiSpyware While they've all gotten rid of a lot of 'unneeded stuff', they haven't solved the problem. I'm at my wit's end here. Any other ideas? Open Mycomputer from the desk top choose properties tell me how much ram is installed? Then open in Mycomputer again put your mouse over Local Disk, a small window will pop up, what does it say about Disc space it should list the total hard drive size, and amount of free space left on Disc. ******You might consider getting rid of Norton it does not get along with some PCs and there a very good free Anti Virus Programs available. Just so you know removing Norton usually requires a special removal tool to get rid of it all, if this is not done left over files will be left, it's a simple process but needs to be done correctly.

many pc companies put a separate partition on the drive and label it D, it contains everything that came on the pc when you got it and that is what you use should you need to reformat, they do that now instead of giving you the actual cd's to be able to go back to the factory setup. In system restore settings you can tell it which drives to set restore points for. to find out if you have sp3 you should be able to go to start> add remove programs, make sure show updates is checked at the top and then look down the list for the windows update service pack3, also you can right click on My computer choose properties then on the General tab it will tell you what you have. There in that same area if you click on the system restore tab you can see which drives it is monitoring, for example mine has C and D and both are showing as being monitored as it should be.

Hi ctstar,

Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer, as others have pointed out. To start the system recovery:

1 Restart the computer

2 When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.

3 When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.

4 After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

use double driver to make a back up copy of all drivers and save it so if you ever need them you have them.

What you want is "Recovery", not "Restore".

First, make a duplicate copy of all data files (music, document, etc) on another medium. Burn a CD, copy to another PC or SD card, etc, because Reoovery will wipe your hard drive. Second, write down all the programs you use that you'll want to reinstall.

Check with Help on your PC, or the manufacturer, about how to trigger Recovery. With a little bit of effort, you should be happy with the result.
