I recently purchased some really nice high count cotton sheets from Macy's - Charter Club Damask Strip 400 count - which is their own brand. They wear well and look beautiful and are currently on sale!-maria

I agree, they just don't make sheets like 1950's and 1960's Wamsutta percale...I just had a soft as silk pillow case finally split all around the seam line. It was probably 50 years old.
I just go through the linen department and open packages and feel! I have twice in recent years taken back 100% cotton high end ( I thought) sheets because they were coarse to my feel.
I now have 2 sets for my bed that are fine and another that is fine but almost worn out.
The guest beds are old sheets and as smooth as sheets used to be.

I always buy bed linens at Bloomingdales when they are having a big Home Sale.

When I was first married sheets had to be ironed. I'd rather not return to those days!

I bought a set of egyptian cotton that was so coarse I took them off the bed after one night. DH even called me from work to ask what was wrong with the sheets. I took them back and got my money back.

I havenÂt been in years but I will look at Macys on my next trip to town. Hope they are still on sale!

About 6 or so years back, I bought a set of beautiful Laura Ashley sheets.... washed them slept, sort of, on them, took them off, washed again, lots of softener, tried them....and took them back. Told the store they were so rough I couldn't sleep on them....but they sure were pretty!
Lately I've done well at Tuesday Morning and TJ Maxx.

Ugh, when you spend 1/3 of your day on something, it should feel good and wear well. I hate, hate, hate rough sheets.

It's not just the thread count, but whether the thread is "long fiber" or "short fiber". You can have a high thread count, but if the fiber is short, it's still going to feel rough, not hold shape, and wear out more quickly. Or so said my grandmother, who worked in a cotton mill for nearly 50 years. :)

I found some terrific sheets at a Springmaid-Wamsutta outlet in Gilroy, CA some years ago. It was a true outlet, so you had to look for flaws, but when you can get a high quality queen-size sheet for $15, who cares if the seam on the bottom edge is a tiny bit crooked? Not me! I still use them and they still are soft and new-looking.

The only other places I can think of that have sheets I like are Macy's and LL Bean.

I'm fussy about sheets too. Lately, I've bought sheets fom Garnet Hill (catalog & internet) that I like. I also like Martha Stewet sheets, now at Macy's, formerly at K-Mart. I used to buy Ralph Lauren sheets when I could get them on sale. Check out Garnet Hill, I like their flannel and also their basic cotton percale line. My biggest beef is that sheets are never quite big enough for my king sized mattress. I got some sheets at Linen's & Things last year that were total crap. Land's End also has nice sheets.

I've had good luck with the Wamsutta 400 sheets that we bought at BB&B. They're soft enough and seemingly quite durable. I like this set and the color, but when I attempted to buy another set the color was discontinued (silver sage). So as a result they're washed regularly and put back on the bed. I'd say their durability is great.

I didn't like the sheets I've bought at Tuesday Morning. They always seem to be Italian brands and mine shrunk, wrinkled horribly and didn't hold up.

What brands from Macy's does everyone like? Also I'm waiting for the Restoration Hardware ones to go on sale. My duvet cover and shams feel wonderful and although pricey, I think their sheets would be fabulous!
