grandms Your input is just as appreciated and welcome as everyone's! I saw where Zep and Raven had already posted and I thought that the chances were good that they would return to the thread. I value everyone and their answers equally. 8)

Owbist, than you for the valuable suggestions you have given me in the past. You wondered why I do manual updates rather than automatic. I remember only too well the "old days" when updates often caused problems after installation. I learned it was better to check here first before updating. Someone here usually knew about the problem (probably learned the hard way!) which gave me the chance to wait until the problem was solved. Since I turn the PC on only about once a week, manual updates work fine. Incidently, in case there are any more "Nervous Nellies" like me who are concerned about inadvertantly getting Avast's paid version, there is an option given about three steps into the update. And I kept my eyes open for that other stuff Avast wanted to install that you warned about. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Cheers, J .

Manually download the up dates from link below : https://www.avast.com/download-update It may also fix the problem

Never have I ever - until today, gone to a feed store looking for chicken feed. Our little hen reappeared this morning and was out foraging and dining of a bit of bird food and some dog food because she seemed really hungry. We had already decided last night that if she returned we needed to get her some proper nutrition since there has been no lost chicken reported and our shelter now takes only dogs and cats. DH set some out before we went to dinner, but we didn't see her and if she came, she didn't go for the new food. I've been afraid that as soon as we bought chicken things she would disappear. We shall see in the morning. Nicest young gal at the store seemed to be the one who knew the most about chickens. She seemed to think the hen was a younger one but probably producing age. She told us we need a hen house with roosting and nesting space (no purchased boxes needed -- gave us some ideas) but not necessarily a run attached if we can get her to the backyard and fine letting her free range. She also told us the darker chickens appear to scare off hawks better so she will be safer than a light colored one. If we get her to the more protected back yard, we will hen set up the house and seek a friend or two for her. I remembered that my neice's daughter went to TAMU to study poultry science and I thought she was teaching Ag, so I reached out. She is a SPED teacher (special ed) but may be able to help us find her a home. Haven't heard anything - hence the plans to look for a house. I realized I didn't even know what to look for or what kind of coop to get, so one step at a time works for now.
