By "list" do you mean MSRP or UMRP? The two dealers I have recently priced BS for me showed me the UMRP column in the book and said that is as low as they are allowed to go.

I'm also interested in what percentage you received under list price.

I'm looking at a 24" and the popular quoted price is $3,499, as if that is the lowest that they are allowed to sell it for. I think the list is around $4K, because that's what's shown in the Prizer online store site.
With the October American Range price increase, these two are within a couple hundred dollars.

Let's just say it was the Blue Star rep that put the offer out there. Nuff said.

As I said, part of it is luck (lots of my end), part of it is just asking. I got lucky by asking.

Often dealers can go below UMRP for a floor model, which is what astroboy purchased. I know I got my floor model FP ovens well below UMRP.

Actually I do not think nuff has been said. Are you here to give people an idea of discounts to be had, or to make people who paid UMRP pissed off that they did not get some unknown discount. Are we talking $50 or $500? That would be the difference between "who cares" and "hmmmm..."

What a snarky post from ya_think! Congratulations to the OP on getting a discount. That's wonderful, and adds a nice touch to your enjoyment of the Bluestar. You're quite right, sometimes we forget to ask, and you were fortunately in the right place at the right time.

Exactly what benefit did you get from the vague posts that I missed? Astroboy said to ask for a good deal. All I am asking is what he considers a good deal. If asking for substance offends you, so be it.

I got a great deal on my rangetop by lucking into a similar set of circumstances. Oh, and congrats, Astroboy!

I agree with Ya_Think, and did not find his/her post "snarky". When I read the OP, my thought was, "what is the point of this post?". It has been discussed, heatedly, on this forum that it is quite difficult to buy a Bluestar below UMRP. But we don't know if the OP's purchase was below UMRP, what the "substantially" means (its capital letters notwithstanding), whether its objective was to make people push hard with their own Bluestar retailer in hopes of a better price, or whether this post was simply written to feel good about the purchase. The "nuff said" is disingenuous. I cannot find in Astroboy's posts any edifying info for the forum readers. Despite the title "ASK", Astroboy's encounter with the BS rep was serendipitous; I doubt anyone will be able to time a visit to a Bluestar retailer at the exact time of a BS rep's visit.

I remember a very heated thread from Berryberry re her Bluestar pricing issues, where it seemed that the moral of her story was either to accept UMRP, or if you paid less, absolutely not to talk about it (anyone remember that thread?). BS retailers evidently get in trouble if they go below UMRP. We are not sure whether this purchase is actually below UMRP, but if it is, it surely could not have happened without the BS rep's OK.

The entire gist of the post was in my header. There are deals out there to be had yet many, even on these forums, take a look at the list price, maybe haggle a little, but accept what is presented. Blue Star has had certain price reputations and my point was that everything is negotiable. Whether or not you'll get the offer you want is another story. I did. The BS rep's okay was entirely the point. Ask when the rep will be in the store? Maybe that's the answer. However, if I knew that a better might have been made during that circumstance, I certainly would have investigated. Is that of any help on these forums?

If someone got pissed because they paid full price, they should also remember that I purchased a floor model, which was another specific point. As far as substance, people have been reprimanded on these boards for talking about actual dollar amounts of deals, especially regarding BS (as witnessed by the long threads), so I tried to bypass that.

The post was my attempt to relate a good buying experience. Go figure.

Astroboy - Sorry that I turned this confrontational, but here is my point: MSRP on your particular range is approximately $1000 higher than UMRP. I would consider that significant. So when you come here and say that you paid "SUBSTANTIALLY less than list" that means absolutely nothing unless we know your definition of "list". This has been asked here both directly and indirectly, and you have yet to answer.

By all means it is your prerogative not to answer the question, but unless you do I maintain that your post is of no more value than if someone said, "When buying a new car you should haggle." Yes, we all know that.

Ya_think hit the nail on the head. Unless you are providing actual numbers, there is really no value to your post. One of the great feaures of the Internet is the democratization of the world and the overall breakdown of centralized power structures. There is a great opportunity to compare notes, discuss pricing and pretty much bypass the nonsense.

Not sure why you feel any obligation to protect the negotiating schemes and thresholds of corporations, why not share for everyone's benefit? Never understood why people get their panties all in a ruffle about passing on how much they paid for something. It's a price, not a state secret. The purpose of your post seems to be showing off and to keep everyone guessing, not sharing for everyone's benefit.
